Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 and Windows 10

Combat Simulator 3 Battle for Europe is NOT compatible with MS10

have had cfs3,eto, Mediterranean Air war and over Flanders fields working in windows 10, but recently they stopped working. if you ran cfs3config or the game exe it just crashes with the really helpful "it has stopped working" message.  I stumbled into the fix by accident but it does work.  For some reason after a security update, Microsoft have blocked the exe from working from within program files (x86)  ( I can't speak for 32 bit machines) No matter what compatibility settings you use it crashes.  The fix: copy the whole cfs3 directories to the root directory. so that I now have c:\Microsoft games\cfs 3 etc.  You still need to run it in compatibility mode, but it will work with no problems. For CFS3 ETO and Over Flanders Fields, there is a little more work to do, to change the paths in the bat files and in the registry, but its pretty easy to find them.  Then for now at least the game is working again. Why Microsoft want to make it so difficult to run their own game I will never know!!!!  No doubt they will block this route next but it will be as successful as their lame attempt to block classic shell in windows 10. Long live freedom of choice!

2. When you try to play does it gave you any error message?

Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 may be  "NOT compatible"  with Windows 10, BUT IT WILL STILL BE ABLE TO WORK NORMALLY WITH A FEW MINOR TWEAKS.

You may use the "Program Compatibility Troubleshooter",  in the Control Panel/System and Security.  You can indicate that CFS3 worked normally with previous versions of Windows.

There are other "TWEAKS" that are available.   CFS3 worked well with Microsoft XP which is no longer supported by Microsoft.
