KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets. AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

P.S. also keep in mind yesterday's update does not include fixes for moving folders or system partitions that are out of space. So those two triggers will still be present for those impacted by those.

Um, I never moved files and my system partitions have plenty of space although while we're on the space topic Windows OS are getting more and more bloated with each successive release. There is no need for that.

Kinda need to put XP back on this computer

was compelled to take Windows 8 at purchase, a flawed, buggy product that doesn't run a number of games, like Master of Orion 2. Got compelled into Window 8.1 by nagging pushes from microsoft, it crashed the whole system and forced a hard drive wipe and windows reinstall. Tried to get support but was unsuccessful.

Now I have windows 8 again, and its going to cease being supported? Whats the point in having this at all, seems like I'm better off with an older version of windows, as this version continues to deteriorate. It seems that there are no solutions in any windows product. I guess its all meaningless.... It feels like there is no point to any of it. Its like wandering a desert. I try to explain the insanity of all this to my partner who has Apple, and is perplexed when I say 'ignore all errors' or "there isn't a way to make it work'

It feels like nothing gets fixed, we just move on to the next bugs, with all of the ones before

Windows despondent

After having used XP for 7 years, and 7 the next 4(still on my desktop) and then trying 8.1 I would tend to agree with your assessment. I plan not to purchase another Windows PC...I would suggest Linux to you...if you don't want to shell out any money for Windows 7. This current OS is a disaster.

So am I. I tried also all the things you mentioned. It is very frustrating. I wonder how long this issue will take until it's hopefully solved. I was a fan of Windows...
