KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

sfc /scannow

DISM /online /get-packages /format:table | findstr KB2919355

I have same problem and probe in the solution step by step and not the upgrade system works. In step 3 the "DISM.exe / Online / Cleanup-image / Restorehealth" command displays the error message "Error: 0x80240021

DISM failed. No operation was performed.

For more information, review the log file.

The DISM log file can be found at C: \ WINDOWS \ Logs \ DISM \ DISM.log "

To try to fix this bug in a new lei forum should do "chkdsk / r" did that and came back to run the comndos the "DISM ..." and not fix anything.

Then directly download the KB2919355 update and try to install it and returns and failure.

Then ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab and dij something that he corrected and rerun windows update and another error came was 80,246,007.

Finally the more they try to solve the problems that windows update has more problems arise. What kind of software is this?

    Robert

Thanks for your post. I was about to sit quietly and wait with all of my fingers crossed but having seen Susan's kind offer I will make contact in the hope that it may help MS find a solution for me and all others suffering the same plight.

Whilst mowing the lawn it did occur to me that I could offer an opportunity to MS in response to their ultimatum. They could take my SPro and give me a fully functioning SPro II to re-establish my faith in their products. Then they could dissect and test my SPro to their hearts content to find the fix that presently eludes them. Then I would be sorted, MS could fix the problem for all of their customers, and they might limit any further damage to their reputation. I would have to buy replacement software but I'd trade that against a nice new shiny and functional SPro II. Everybody wins. MS have access to my email address but I won't hold my breath!

To you, and all of the other people responding on this forum I can only give my gratitude for your efforts in trying to fix this thing. Hopefully either Susan or MS will be able to resolve this for me soon.

    All the best

trawled through all 14 pages but this update isn't specifically mentioned.

Agreed.  So I used the Chat on the Updates category, pointing to your question.  Surface support claim to be working on this, so I think for now you should just wait.  I find that that is a common feature of updating anyway, some updates don't work right away but then mysteriously do finally become applied.  This one is bigger than most and more controversial because it involves changes in functionality, e.g., not just a security patch or a fix for a bug that few people had been aware of, so it's really not surprising that it has more visibility than most when its failure to apply is noticed.
