KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

I have made 6 attempts to install KB2919355, 3 times "run" and three times from a downloaded file.

When installing from the downloaded file, after a lengthy install, I get the following message in the Download and Install Updates panel: "The following updates were not installed: Update for Windows (KB2919355)"

I have wasted more than a day on your problem!

    Peter Klokow

    dear mine also same problem..

but i manage to solved this.

try to restore the system at earlier point.

If you think an app or driver that you recently installed caused problems with your PC, you can restore Windows back to an earlier point in time, called a restore point. System Restore doesn’t change your personal files, but it might remove recently installed apps and drivers.

    Notes

    • System Restore isn't available for Windows RT 8.1.
    • Windows automatically creates a restore point when you install desktop apps and new Windows updates, if the last restore point is older than 7 days. You can also create a restore point manually at any time.

To restore your PC to an earlier point in time

    1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.

(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then clickSearch.) 2. Enter Control Panel in the search box, and tap or click Control Panel. 3. Enter Recovery in the Control Panel search box, and then tap or click Recovery. 4. Tap or click Open System Restore, and then follow the instructions.

if you not see any restore point then click on show more restore point then select before this messup update you try to install ( mine is 8-4-2014 cerated by system automatic option ) .. note some update you r missing due to this but don,t worry. take back up of your important software and files..

after restore ... open system in clean boot envirment ( how to do find in ms site ) now run windows update in this select

all are done mannually download and install each installation in order  required re-start do it ( 5-6 times )

then now start your pc in normal mode ( from clean mode to normal ) info got from ms site .

by this way i solved my update problem.

    i hope this help you.

note :- disable antivarious during this process.. do not stop and installation it takes times ( some time you feel its hangs but not to do anything )

My four 'machines from H3LL' were fresh clean installs done the day before from retail Win8 DVDS, upgraded to win8.1 though the microsoft store, no AV but MS defender! Any corruption there is coming straight from Windows update

My take is that it's what I call 'crusty boxes'.  Due to antivirus/install of software/upgrading the servicing stack gets corrupted.  Bottom line they are still investigating.
