I just received the lumia 930 a few days ago. Perfect device however every time I want to make a call the screen goes black. I had a lumia 920 without this problem. Is there a solution? (without blowing the dust, restoring to factory settings or bringing the device back to the store?). This is such a devastating problem as it is almost impossible to just answer the phone. A have no protective cover etc.

Final Update.

The shop replaced my Nokia 930 with a new one.

In the shop we found out that the screen in the sensor area was wobbly. LIkely that this was the defect that triggered the proximity sensor.

So, if you have issues with proximity sensor, there is one option only... go to service.

Although this discussion board shows a Microsoft logo, Microsoft Mobile did not leverage their Microsoft Answers for individual support. Why ever. Furthermore, Microsoft does not provide any individual support for mobile phones anymore since May 2016. This board here is driven by a community of specialized 3rd-party enthusiasts. Some love to answer questions, some are being paid. If you are looking for an official answer, you have to contact a company called B2X.

To answer your original question: I am not aware of a software issue. All cases I know are hardware related, like a broken proximity sensor. Even if it worked in Windows Phone 8.1, the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile revealed that issue in hardware. Before you go for B2X, another reason could be dirt on the screen or a misaligned screen-protector – which blocks that sensor; remove that and clean the display. To avoid any scratches, please, go for distilled water and not a microfiber but a woolen dustcloth.

Windows 10 has definitely made the phone clunky and unreliable.  It used to be incredible.

In any case, they way I've found to get around the blank screen is to click the wake/power button twice after I started the call.  This will bring the screen up.  One more click to go blank again.  A pain...but if you need to do anything during a call seems to be the only thing that works for me.

I am experiencing this after upgrading my Lumia 930 to Windows 10.

Before that I do not remember having this issue or never felt like this much pain.

Now it is so much horrible. I had to press the power button many times to bring back the screen to see, whether the call goes to right person or drop the call or use keypad.
