Very slow data transfer - One Drive

I have a particular problem for which I have not found a solution.

I purchased 1 TB of One drive storage. The data transfer from my PCs and android devices is very slow to the point where it is becoming unusable. Folders are uploading from my PC to One Drive but in many cases not their data. When I open the folders in Outlook.com or on another device or PC, I often receive a message 'Folders are empty', or conversely, on another PC the folders simply have no contents.

I am trying to ascertain the cause but it is proving difficult. Below is a possible cause of issue:

I am based in Australia. When I opened my hotmail account some years ago in Australia, for some reason I was given a  .uk hotmail address. Whilst I used the service primarily for email it was not a problem. However, I am wondering now if OneDrive is backing up my data to a UK server rather than one in Australia and that is causing the problem. I have thought of closing my hotmail/outlook.com account and opening a new one but I would prefer not to do that. I would like to retain my entitlements through my current account. When I purchased the 1 TB storage it was with a license for Office 2013 (2 PCs) and for one portable device. I want to retain the office license. I have an android tablet and when MS releases Office for Android, I would like to use the remaining license on it.

    Yes,

    it's totally unusable ..... I'm on 100mbit network and it is ALWAYS communicating with server in redmond .... I don't know whether they have only one datacenter, but it is unbearable. I'm in czech republic and instead of connecting to ANY other datacenter, it is connected to the furthermost in USA .... I can download from richmond university FTP server about 50-80mbps ...... but from microsoft 2-8mbps from the same location. I'm not sure how they want to provide such service for billions of users:o) And it seems ongoing problem for years!!!! People around the world reporting slow upload and download and they are also connecting to redmond ..... it's insane!!! I'm using web interface and trying to manage photos and videos from my phone, I don't even dare to sync something on my computer through dedicated application ..... interestingly, google drive for example, it is running 100mbps constantly .... just to find the way, how to swap onedrive to something (anything!!!) else and use conveniently things like phone sync, onenote etc ..... but it is obviously not possible and hardlinked with onedrive ..... and it's even the most expensive cloud storage, which is so funny it makes me cry ........

    I have the same issues. AND im from the US. It took 35 minutes to upload 6 pictures. Sometimes free still isnt worth it. 

    I am in the US and 10 days ago I set up an upload of around 8 GB to One Drive. 10 days later it is still uploading and has not even completed a fraction of the required upload.

    In the meanwhile ever other device on my home network has been rendered almost unworkable. My Direct TV connection that uses the internet works intermitantly, my other computers on my home network cannot access the internet. I am totally frozen up and this for he last 10days.

    My challenge now is to figure out how to stop/cancel this up load and make sure none of my files are damaged in the process. After that Goodbye to MS One Drive and let every one I know be informed of the quality of OneDrive. I have no such problems with Google or Apple Storage.

    Why this is a problem I do not need to know. All I know is that Microsoft has put out a shoddy product that is creating huge problems for many including myself , based on the comments I have been reading on this site and other sites on the net. 

    I am glad others have detailed their similar problems with OneDrive which gives me comfort that it is not just me or my system that is the problem.

    I would have thought that Microsoft would be the leaders in cloud technology, but are clearly far from it. From New Zealand, the clear and obvious choice for cloud storage is Google Drive. Compared to Microsoft, they are:

    • Really fast upload and download speeds compared to any other cloud service.
    • Quick to respond and help, not always blaming the home connection, especially when other services are fast.
    • Do not hog bandwidth when uploading or downloading.

    The only reason I still use One Drive is for Office365. But I am will be looking for alternatives if Microsoft do not come to the party.

    Haven't noticed it before but when I had to upload a 100 or so pics from an iphone, I couldn't believe the problems. I could only drag about 10 files at a time or it would fail. Even with 10 the speed is painfully slow. Like everyone esle here I use dropbox and google drive and have never sen anything like this so it's definitely on Msft's end. I feel bad for the people that actually pay for this crappy service.

    Long story short; Upload and download rates at onedrive are **** and have been **** for years. Don't use it for files you might need quickly. You might use it for long term backups or for the camera roll from your phone..

    From home uploading goes around 500 kb/s and downloading about 2 mb/s with 1gb up/down fiber connection.

    Using whatever windows phone, android phone, computer or even a surface tablet or samsung SUR40 does not make it quicker.

    From my work (data center :D ) it doesn't go any faster but stays at around the same rates, even though we have a lightning fast connection.
