Very slow data transfer - One Drive

I have a particular problem for which I have not found a solution.

I purchased 1 TB of One drive storage. The data transfer from my PCs and android devices is very slow to the point where it is becoming unusable. Folders are uploading from my PC to One Drive but in many cases not their data. When I open the folders in Outlook.com or on another device or PC, I often receive a message 'Folders are empty', or conversely, on another PC the folders simply have no contents.

I am trying to ascertain the cause but it is proving difficult. Below is a possible cause of issue:

I am based in Australia. When I opened my hotmail account some years ago in Australia, for some reason I was given a  .uk hotmail address. Whilst I used the service primarily for email it was not a problem. However, I am wondering now if OneDrive is backing up my data to a UK server rather than one in Australia and that is causing the problem. I have thought of closing my hotmail/outlook.com account and opening a new one but I would prefer not to do that. I would like to retain my entitlements through my current account. When I purchased the 1 TB storage it was with a license for Office 2013 (2 PCs) and for one portable device. I want to retain the office license. I have an android tablet and when MS releases Office for Android, I would like to use the remaining license on it.

    Slow upload speeds can be an issue with a user's Internet Service Provider, network card, connection type, size of upload, and other things. If the folder is getting used, then the server will throttle the speed to ensure it is not overloaded for others.

    I would have you follow the suggestions provided by Dan T on December 21, 2013and see if it fixes the issue.

    I have the same problem. Dropbox upload rate is 5-10 times faster.

    I hope Microsoft will solve that problem. Because the other things are fine. Office 365... etc.

    I have about a 15 meg upload speed with our network at work and I set this value around 5 megs and I couldn't believe the difference. Made Dropbox and Google run like slugs.. Anyways, take a look at this link. It made a huge difference in our setup and work environment with Office 365.

    Your reply unfortunately just sounds like someone making lame excuses; if someone says they have no problem with google drive or dropbox, but only with onedrive, then it cannot be the PC specs, or the internet connection that is at fault, it can only be onedrive that is functioning in a less than ideal manner

    Hi there......thanks for this.

    Where exactly is that option setting though please?  I have signed in to my OneDrive on the laptop, hit the gear icon in the upper RH corner then selected "Options" and I am seeing:-

    • Manage Storage
    • Upgrade
    • Office File Formats
    • Tagging
    • Notifications
    • Device Back ups
    • Search

    none of which contain the "Use Office to work on files with other people at the same time" option you mention?

    I have just moved to OneDrive after using Dropbox without upload or speed problems for the last couple of years due to expiry of the free additional space on Dropbox that came bundled with my old phone.  My new handset has given me 100GB of free storage for with OneDrive for 2 years hence the shift but I am less than impressed with performance so far so find myself here searching for answers as to why uploads to OneDrive are so sloooooooow. Dropbox would have completed the task some hours ago, gone home and put its feet up in comparison!
