Very slow data transfer - One Drive

I have a particular problem for which I have not found a solution.

I purchased 1 TB of One drive storage. The data transfer from my PCs and android devices is very slow to the point where it is becoming unusable. Folders are uploading from my PC to One Drive but in many cases not their data. When I open the folders in Outlook.com or on another device or PC, I often receive a message 'Folders are empty', or conversely, on another PC the folders simply have no contents.

I am trying to ascertain the cause but it is proving difficult. Below is a possible cause of issue:

I am based in Australia. When I opened my hotmail account some years ago in Australia, for some reason I was given a  .uk hotmail address. Whilst I used the service primarily for email it was not a problem. However, I am wondering now if OneDrive is backing up my data to a UK server rather than one in Australia and that is causing the problem. I have thought of closing my hotmail/outlook.com account and opening a new one but I would prefer not to do that. I would like to retain my entitlements through my current account. When I purchased the 1 TB storage it was with a license for Office 2013 (2 PCs) and for one portable device. I want to retain the office license. I have an android tablet and when MS releases Office for Android, I would like to use the remaining license on it.

    Your reply unfortunately just sounds like someone making lame excuses; if someone says they have no problem with google drive or dropbox, but only with onedrive, then it cannot be the PC specs, or the internet connection that is at fault, it can only be onedrive that is functioning in a less than ideal manner

    Slow upload speeds can be an issue with a user's Internet Service Provider, network card, connection type, size of upload, and other things. If the folder is getting used, then the server will throttle the speed to ensure it is not overloaded for others.

    I would have you follow the suggestions provided by Dan T on December 21, 2013and see if it fixes the issue.

    I have the same problem. Dropbox upload rate is 5-10 times faster.

    I hope Microsoft will solve that problem. Because the other things are fine. Office 365... etc.

    I can confirm this.

    Had to wait 5 min for 3 mb while having 1000mbit upload (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5053752642)

    But then again downloading the windows 10 iso is as painful as uploading to them. It's a microsoft thing i guess.

    With all due respect, this is NOT usually the end users connection or service provider or network card, specifically in my case. I am on fibre with upload speeds of 20Mb/s. Uploading to Google Drive is very fast, as is to dropbox. I have tried several different vendors for cloud based storage, and the majority is much faster than OneDrive.

    I agree, what good is OneDrive and a huge amount of space when the uploads of simple small files take forever. The upload speed never goes above 200 kb/s so how could it be my provider if DropBox goes up to 4 Mb/s upload??

    I am in New Zealand.

    We just purchased the Surface book and set it up. It defaulted the documents to one drive which I thought would not be a problem. It is a major problem. We get errors saying cannot contact server when trying to save a file and the amount of time it takes to sync is not acceptable. 

    We are switching back to google drive where we have not had an issue.

    One drive is not ready for prime time, we cannot use it in a work environment.
