I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet. The screen of the 8 pro often doesnt turn on after pressing the power button (to get it out of sleep) or after pressing the windows button. Only the backlight turns on.
Sometimes, after pressing the power button numerous times the screen turns on. (numerous = >50times)
Doenst matter if the battery is 100% or 10%.
The screen also doesnt turn on booting it up (after powering down).
Also when i press the power button + volume down immediately after (to enter the bios), it shows a black screen with backlight on.

I have installed teamviewer on the 8 pro and i have logged on with my laptop 3 times while having a black screen on the 8 pro.
The strange thing is, when viewing the 8 pro's screen with teamviewer, i can see the touch screen of the 8 pro is still functioning. See this video i made:

Each time i watched the system event log, and saw warnings like:
'a pointer device did not report a valid unit of angular measurement'
'a pointer device reported a bad angular physical range'
'a pointer device reported a bad angular logical range'

I have installed all the laters Dell drivers and flashed the Bios (also from Dell). Also i installed the latest windows 8.1 updates.
I have rolled back the installed Intel graphic drivers to standard microsoft drivers, but also with the standard drivers the screen occasionally wont turn on.
This device is rather new. What can i do to fix this?

The Venue Pro 8 run a 32 bit version of Win 8.1
Some software doesn't like it and there are some issues when trying to find the correct drivers for it.
Mine had it's first black screen.
It's not the first time I have encountered this in Windows OS.
It happens to my desktop PC , which runs Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
If you let it restart itself after an update then: let it go to sleep; it has trouble waking up.
You have to reset the computer to get out of the "sleep state".
My 5 day old Venue 8 Pro (64 GB) began doing the exact same thing today - except the screen stayed blank (but back lit) no matter how many times I pressed the power button.
I was able to boot into the BIOS by holding down the volume-down key and pressing the power button. In the BIOS Exit menu I selected save changes and reset, even though I had made no changes. The Venue then rebooted into Windows normally.
Also I noticed in the BIOS you can turn off the the TPM function. Perhaps this would affect the behavior.
This fixed my problem as well. I have a new Venue Pro that was working fine up until I installed the Dell Venue 8 Pro 5830 A04 BIOS and the 1.0.4.2, A02 Panel Touch Firmware for Dell Venue 8 Pro 5830 ... as soon as I did those updates I would get a blank screen immediately after rebooting and logging in with my picture password.
Going into the BIOS, changing nothing, and selecting the save and reset option appears to have fixed the issue.
I have the same problem except I cant even turn it on. Just the back light turns on. So, this doesn't help. Is there any other way to fix this, without using my Dell venue 8 pro? Because I've only had my dell since the Sunday after Christmas.
Also is it possible that the screen is black because of the cold. Because my house is very cold and my room is one of the coldest rooms in the house. I always take my Dell into my room at night to charge. So is it possible that the reason is that my dell got to cold?
Held my V8 vertical(Portrait) tapped the power button twice(Once might have done it?) and , voila! Came-up fine, password already accepted, back in business. Go figure..? Thankx!
BTW: I have lots of computers - including Samsung and Apple tabs, which are marvels... The V8 is the most fun of all - I can wait through the inevitable workarounds, fixes and updates - it's only been out a month... What a cool machine. And at this price with Office thrown-in? Amaaazing. Sometimes I just stare at the little gidget and think how far things have come since my TI-99, then my 1988 $2,200 DOS PC(It's "green screen" cost more than the V8.)...
With the same problem, I called Dell Support. At their direction, I held down the power button for up to 1 minute to power down the Dell Venue 8" Pro. After that, it powered up properly.
Their Explanation was: when the tablet is left on the charger more than 8 hrs, it goes into this "incorrect mode". Their advice: charge the tablet a minimum of 4 hrs and a maximum of 8 hrs. Also be sure to power it down at least once a week.
