What exactly does KB2952664 do?

KB2952664 was published on April 22, 2014 and appears in my Windows Update List (I am running Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit).

The description of this update is vague:  "This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."

Anyone have more information on what this update actually does? If its sole purpose is to ease the "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (or 8.1 or 8.1 update), then I'll just permanently hide KB2952664 (I have no desire or intention to "upgrade" my Windows 7 system to any flavor of Windows 8).

If its purpose is to ease what would be a true Windows 7 upgrade to a yet-to-be-announced Windows 7 SP2, then I'll keep it (but still would like to have more information about what KB2952664 actually does before installing).

    It's a bad omen for those of us who don't want it and have to keep hiding it, as they seem to be increasing the frequency with which they are trying to sneak it past those of us who don't want it and have to keep hiding it.

    If you've already installed it and still get it as an available update, I don't know if that's a bad omen, but I can't imagine how it could be a good one - updates that are already installed are generally not offered again, because they're already installed. Curiouser and curiouser...

    Yes, my records show that June was the 13th time I have installed KB2952664.  Is that a good or bad omen?

    I also am running windows 7 and would like to keep it. Windows 8 and 8.1 both suck and as such, why would I even try 10? We love to be able to play our games and I have a experience rating of 7.8 only because the solid state hard drive is slow. I'm running Windows 7 with SP1 64bit. Since this is a attempt by Microsoft to influence people to purchase or upgrade I will remove this update.

    I have not yet looked at that URL.  When I see a patch such as KB2990214 already installed, I cannot assume that it will not appear again, with changes.  The patch that started this thread, KB2952664, has been installed 12 different times on my system (04/28/2014

    • 04/09/2015).  Of course, KB890030 (MRT.exe) appears every patch Tuesday, plus an extra appearance this month.
