Windows 8.1 Pro x64 UEFI very slow boot and shutdown

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the in-store update my PC takes a good 3-4 minutes to boot!!! I am on a GA-X79-UD3 + i7-3820 + Samsung SSD 840 for system drive. I have updated all my drivers to Windows 8.1 compatible ones and still. I have checked via Samsung Magician and the drive is using AHCI mode on (Intel PCH) Sata 3 6Gb/s.  I have tried restoring my UEFI to default settings and enabling Fast Boot but still?? On Windows 8 it would boot in 5 seconds....

EDIT: Have tried Safe Boot and Clean Boot, still same

EDIT2: Will any Microsoft guy chime in?

    I had this issue before too. I found by going to my computer manufacture website (HP.com in my case), downloading and installing the latest BIOS released for your machine it can fix the computer slow boot. This could be temporary or permanent, don't know at the moment. When I turned it on this morning at booted like before the update, in under a minute.

    By the Way: When I went to my product support page at asked if i was running Windows 8 or 8.1. CHOOSE WINDOWS 8 because your get the BIOS last released for it, don't install the one under WINDOWS 8.1 if such an option is available, as your computer will have downloaded that BIOS already and so obviously it didn't work., then Patch and restart.

    It fixed my issue, hopefully it will work on others.

    Same problem with everyone here. Very slow boot times. I personally cannot deal with this issue even with the new features windows 8.1 brings to the table so I just reinstalled windows 8. Until Microsoft comes up with a fix I'm not upgrading.

    Window Defender is a full security suite that comes with W8.1. My MaCaffe was deleted off my Ultrabook when I upgraded  from w8 to W8.1, However, on my Desktop ; the version i got last january of W8 did not; and my Store Apps would not work--I had a Widowns tech take care of it over th phone. Back to my Ultrabook ; when I istlled MaCafee it disabled Window Defender like it should have.. Me think your 3rd party anti-virus and firewall probably are slowing things down. I'm sure things will continue to change regarding this.

    Mine's a FRESH .iso straight from Microsoft's Volume Licensing Centre. Explain that with viruses and autostarting apps. 

    It's squeaky clean.

    Same problem.  Just updated my Dell Inspiron to 8.1 last night and it takes significantly longer to startup windows.  Before it took 20 seconds from the time I pushed the button, now it takes a good minute+.

    I read on another board that someone had the same issue and he created a new account and that fixed it for him.  Haven't tried it yet myself, but you shouldn't have to do this.
