Asus Vivotab RT: flash doesn't work!

Hello,

I have a problem with my LED flash.

4 days ago I've bought Asus Vivotab RT. I've run it, updated and installed some apps from a Store.

I also made a few photos in dark to try my LED diode and flash. Everything worked fine.

On Thursday Microsoft released an Windows 8.1 RT update. I couldn't wait for install it.

After the installation my OS works fine but the only problem was that I had to reinstall apps from Store because all my apps had been in Czech and changed language to English.

But yesterday I wanted to take a photo at night and there was no flash, my photo was dark. I tried different apps: from Microsoft - Camera and original from Asus - Asus Camera. I've reinstall Asus Camera many times but when I press More options there is no Asus option for flash or diode and no special effects as sepia or contrast as it had been.

I've searched on Google for similar problems and the conclusion mostly was that Asus or Microsoft has to release an update. Those questions were half year old so I'm not sure how it is with updates now.

Has anyone same problems or experience with it? What shall I do?

Do I have to return my tablet and ask for a new one?

(please note that u should be doing this from the asus vivo rt assuming the asus camera app is already installed)

1. Go here:

Click on download then select the OS => Windows RT
Click on the plus sign next to Utilties

You will then see the part with description "Camera flash not working..."

Go ahead and click on the first Global DLM
It will download the the rar file to the tab
extraxt the rar en then execute the camera.reg (just double click on it) and confirm when asked if you want to modify the registry etc..
reboot the tab
and then just wait..

after a while.. (it took me about 15 minutes) just start the asus camera app en open more options, you will notice the difference

Good News! I just got another email from Asus about the flash.

Quote: We have a fix for the camera flash slated to be released this week. So if you haven't updated yet, and was concerned due to the camera issue, we have sorted it out and the camera will now work 100% with Windows 8.1 on the VivoTab RT!

So the problem is in the Camera update?

I'm waiting for the actaulisation or reply from Microsoft nearly for month! I've also written ASUS Camera app review on Store with my problem.

Hi.

I'm glad you've replied because it looks like that Microsoft workers don't care about update for ASUS Vivotabs RT (at least I understood it from M Basith's reply).

Yesterday I wrote an email to ASUS Support in Czech republic.

I have described our problem: no flash, no ASUS More options, cannot use LED diode. They said I'm the only one who is facing this problem at this time and I have to contact the store where I have bought tab or local service.

Before I'll file a complaint to the store on Wednesday, I've tried to do a few things:

Firstly I've decided to reinstall Windows (Change PC options - Update and recovery - Recovery - Remove everything and reinstall Windows).

It hasn't helped, after reinstallation I had Windows RT 8.1 and Camera app was taking photos without flash (ASUS Camera app too). In actualisations list I have noticed Camera driver update but after installation my camera wasn't repaired.

Secondly I've reset my ASUS tab by pushing and holding button, inside the hole near the Turn on button, with my clip when tab was running. I've chosen something like Remove files and clear installation in option which has shown me.

The result was same.

Last thing which I've tried is Troubleshooter in Action center. I've tried to find a problem in Hardware and sound section. Troubleshooter found a problem connected with Windows Update - WU configured to never install drivers.

Maybe that's the problem. But Windows RT should automatically install drivers.

I'm lost at this moment...

I think ASUS can't be bothered to support Windows RT 8.1. The flash worked fine for me with Windows RT 8, but once I upgraded all of the options went missing.

I called ASUS Support in Australia and they told me they don't support Windows RT 8.1 issues. When I obtained a RMA for the VivoTab RT, they put the old Windows RT 8 back on.
