Being wasting my time reading all the posts and anyone know if:- I definitely need a recovery partition on my hard drive cos I haven't got one What is the minimum free space required on my system partition to do this upgrade. and in my windows updates it's showing the upgrade as successful but all subsequent updates refer to the system not having the update installed, which I'm sure it hasn't cheers

I was downloading updates on another computer running Windows Vista Professional and it keeps coming up with the above error and it shuts-down and then starts up and repeats the same thing over and over again. I can't do anything except turn the computer off. I need help please

I get the message Windows will restart in 1-day restart to do updates then it goes through this quasi update and then eventually says undoing changes do not turn off your computer. My last update was on 1/13/2014. C'mon Microsoft how about a fix. I checked my history and there were no errors codes/messages to report. I am not tech. savy so just fix it via your patch updates. You are getting enough complaints to get the heavies involved. 10:1 I get no response nor a fix............taking bets! Carlos

I called Microsoft at 1-866-PCSAFETY and was offered remote assistance to diagnose the problem but was cautioned that it could take 2-3 hours. I was also offered online support through http://answerdesk.microsoft.com . Based on my description of the situation, the person at Microsoft suggested following http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 and then trying the standalone installer. I will leave Automatic Update disabled to avoid multiple updates happening at the same time. I also asked about the DISM procedure described at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us . The recommendation was to run dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth and then dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth to minimize the number of updates that have to downloaded. I will provide an update once I have had a chance to do an image backup and tried the steps above.
