I downloaded the October updates on 3 different computers with no issues on the first two. Unfortunately, my home desktop has turned out to be a quite different matter. I downloaded them on the night of October 10th. There was a glitch with KB2862335,
but stopping and restarting the download appeared to fix that.
The next morning, we had no internet access on the desktop. The laptop and our Apple devices were able to access our home network. We called Comcast, our internet service provider and they walked us through various activities with no change. We checked our
cables, unplugged our modem and restarted the computer. We checked the ipconfiguration and reset it. We checked to see if our driver (RealTek GBE Family Controller) was up-to-date. Later, I updated the driver by downloading it onto a thumb drive and installing
it on the desktop. We also checked to see if the Internet Protocal Bindings (TCP/IP 4; TCP/IP 6) were on the correct settings. Everything that we checked was apparently correct and up-to-date, Comcast was therefore unable to offer a solution.
I checked with Microsoft who said that there was no reason why the updates should have interfered with the internet connectivity.
I checked with HP, the manufacturer of the computer. They claimed that they could help me for a price since my warranty had expired. More pertinently, they also informed me that they'd had a number of complaints about these updates.
I've attempted a system restore from before the downloads took place. Not only was this unsuccessful, it ended up making it impossible to log on to my user account on the desktop. I also uninstalled KB2862335 and KB2862330.
The error message that I am getting from windows is that my RealTek driver is out-of-date and my Bindings are not appropriately checked. Both of these assertions are incorrect.
Right now, I am looking for a solution that is not expensive and ideally is less of a nuisance than reinstalling windows.
Thank you in advance to anyone with suggestions.
