10/8/2013 Windows Update has Jacked my PC

On 10/9/2013...yesterday...I installed the large Windows Update for October.   During the reboot phase, my computer Blue Screened.  First time that has ever happened to me in 20 years with a Windows Update.  So I had to force shutdown and start the pc.   Booted up again normally..blue screen.  Tried again in Safe Mode and it appeared to finish finally.

So that is an issue of itself.  However, the Windows Update appears to have caused me some serious problems this past day.   My computer constantly freezes after some duration of usage, no matter what I'm doing.   (What I mean by "freeze" is "crash", but not BSOD...just can't do anything, even at-tab or alt-cntl-delete)  PC crashed/froze 4-5 times after the update and now.

This is the first major issue I've ever had with a WU and I've no clue what to do.  I did some Googling and there does appear to a lot of people having problems with this update and some mention of KB...2330, although I've no clue if that specific update is my problem or not.

Help would be appreciated.

(On a sidenote, I find this whole "community support" tool to not be very user-friendly at all and cumbersome.  For one , the sort feature just flat does not work)

    Mr. Propyl, Pa Bear is not spam.  He's like me trying to help.  Don't hide updates, just leave them there until we get a better resolution. 

    .NET updates are our normal .NET ism.  I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary with .NET updates this month.

    I would not hold off on all October updates.  USB ones I'm not comfy with.  But the rest include an IE update that needs to be installed.

    I have had exactly the same problem. I am running Windows Proefessional 7 - 32 bit. It appears to install but on reboot it fails and reverts to previous stage. I am now going to hide the update until a there is a fix or update. Susan Bradley can you please advise. Thanks.

    After much too many encounters with MS13-081 and its spawn, my generic advice to anybody with this problem with the October 2013 Microsoft Updates for USB MS13-081 on Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 is as follows:

    1. Do not run Microsoft System Restore. It will not help and 99.99% of all posters have no idea what little it does. If you have no working keyboard and mouse after MS13-081 there are relevant posts about how to remove selected MSI-081 Microsoft Updates using scripts after booting from a custom USB device.
    2. Ignore all spam questions from PA Bear. It just clogs the thread. Definitely do not take **** advice about repairing Windows Update.
    3. Review MS13-081 for your Operating System and Hide any outstanding updates. Periodically monitor the individual update KB's for updates from Microsoft.
    4. Do not force any updates from MS13-081 whatsoever. You could well end up with a brick.
    5. Do not attempt to repair Microsoft Update for this fault. There is nothing wrong with Microsoft Update itself.

    I am still holding ALL October 2013 Microsoft Updates on mission-critical computers because of:

    1. Faulty .NET updates
    2. Faulty USB updates
    3. Faulty MSE update

    God knows what the "successful" updates have done.

    After trying to talk for a couple of weekends with the support agents and not getting terribly far, partly because of the lack of internet connectivity, I did as Rob Rocker suggested. The backup was successful, the restoration to factory fresh state was successful, I have internet access on the desktop again, and I was able to get my files back. Unfortunately, the directory/folder structure has been lost so that pretty much all of the files are in the C: folder rather than in more appropriate subfolders. Is there a way to get back the previous set of folders?
