Flight Sim X will not work on Windows 8.1

I have the official release of 8.1 now, downloaded last night and FSX still does not work.

I can get through the menus but when I click to fly now, it drops me back to the desktop and gives me a fatal error.

I have tried:

 1. A system restore back to windows 8, followed by the 8.1 upgrade.

 2. Fresh install of FSX with no add-ons

 3. Tried 'run as admin' and all different compatibility modes.

It still does not work...FS2004 works great. FSX did work in Windows 8.0 fine.

This needs to be fixed, otherwise Microsoft will have killed FSX.

Sorry my bad I messed up. You have to open the game then while it is open go to task manager and then the process tab in task manager then right click on microsoft flight simulator x then properties. Then go to compatibility and change the windows operating system. Should say run the program under compatibility mode for windows 8 and make sure the box is checked. Then hit apply and the okay and the restart microsoft flight simulator x.

Hi. I had the same issue until I looked into it more and found out in the flight simulator x properties tab. You can get to that via going to the microsoft flight simulator x icon and right clicking and going to properties. Anyways you wanna go to compatibility and make sure it's not on windows co. If it is that's the problem. Click on windows co and scroll down to windows 8 and it should work. Mine has been since I changed that setting. Let me know how it works. Thanks

Guys, I have it working on 8.1 perfect, no issues and good performance...

You need the UIAUTOMATIONCORE.DLL in the main FSX directory.

I uninstalled and deleted my video driver and driver software, reboot, and then let Windows update your video driver (VERY IMPORTANT!)

The video driver was causing my crashes.

That's all I had to do. No more problems.

    Good Luck!
