Hi,

This appears to be a new issue that the iTunes users are experiencing while trying to update to the latest version of iTunes in Windows 7. I checked in the Apple support sites and found out that uninstalling iTunes and then reinstalling it by running the installer with Administrator privileges has resolved the issue for many users with similar problems.

You may refer to the replies made by the user turingtest2 in the following threads from Apple Support forums, the steps are properly described there:

https://discussions.apple.com/message/24609674#24609674

https://discussions.apple.com/message/24616175#24616175

The steps that were voted as helpful in those discussions are as follows:

First, uninstall each one of these programs from your computer:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Then, download and save the iTunes installer by going to this link: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

And finally, reinstall iTunes by running the saved installer file with elevated permissions. Here is how you can do that:

  1. Right click on the downloaded installer.
  2. Click on Run as Administrator.
  3. Click Yes or Continue when Windows asks for your consent.

This should help you resolve this issue. If you are still not able to get the iTunes program working properly, you might also want to post your query in the Apple iTunes Support Forums. Here is the link to those forums:

Let us know how it goes. We will be glad to be of further assistance. Thank you and have a good day!

I have uninstalled all of the apple components on both my laptop and desktop. Followed the directions to reinstall as administrator. No luck. I get error7, windows error126 and still the MSvcr80 is missing. Very frustrating. This is three days of my life I can't get back. Any other suggestions? Apple should fix this since it was their update that caused the problem.

Make sure you don't have anything open, I snipped the directions from Z-OD replied on  and followed them step-by-step.  There is a link to https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_for_windows that you might have to go to--did you download and save the iTunes installer after you uninstalled everything?  I also uninstalled Adobe Flash because I thought that was where the script was coming from.  It is an annoying error message to get but it didn't seem to affect the operation of my computer.  Good luck!!!

I've tried to use these fixes but no luck.  For some reason I can't get rid of the amds program.  I even went into c drive, into programs for 64 bit, clicked to remove the amds and won't let me do it.  Went into task manager and stopped the processes for amds and bonjour and still no luck.  When i try to see the amds file it looks like it's empty.  I now have gone to control panel 7 times and removed the programs in the order listed and reinstalled itunes as admin 7 times with no luck.

any suggestions?  seems there are itunes or apple remnants left on computer somewhere that stop the install of itunes.

    thanks in advance

Following what all of you said worked perfectly!  I could not figure out what that error message was and would never have suspected ITunes ... I actually thought it was Adobe Flash which can be temperamental when trying to update.  I followed the uninstalls in order and had not problem reinstalling .. including ITunes ... Thanks again!!!! :)
