I'm having trouble trying to determine exactly what motherboard I have and what BIOS update I need for it. I have determined that my current configuration is:
FOXCONN 2AB1 Motherboard
AMD 785G Chipset
AMD SB700 Southbridge
American Megatrends Inc BIOS
Version 6.05 January 18th 2011
BTW I have a Windows 7 Ultimate HP Pavilion p6720f Desktop PC.
I don't really understand where to go to find the proper BIOS update, I have tried both the FOXCONN and AMI websites with no luck. The HP website makes no sense, when I look at BIOS updates listed under my computer, two different ones are listed. Neither of them sounds at all like my motherboard or current BIOS. They are called H-RS880-UATX Motherboard BIOS Update and N-Alvorix-RS880 Motherboard BIOS Update. How in the world do I know what BIOS update I need to install?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I feel like contacting HP to update my BIOS is a little bit of overkill, isn't their a reliable way to find the correct update online and do it yourself?
I suggested contacting HP support since determining what BIOS update is required has not been possible.
They should be able to point to which update is required for your computer.

Long story short, my computer takes a long time to start up so instead of shutting it down every time, I close all open programs and hibernate it.
You should find out why the boot time is too long and resolve the problem.
Please upload and share with everyone copies of your Diagnostics –Performance Operational log from your Event Viewer to your Sky Drive and post a link here.
To access the log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window select Application and Services Logs. Expand and then expand Microsoft, Diagnostics -Performance. Place the cursor on Operational, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name.
The estimate gives me 478 watts.
I would investigate the feasibility of installing a Power Supply Unit with a higher specification.
I have discussed in length with other forum users why I do not normally shut down my computer. Long story short, my computer takes a long time to start up so instead of shutting it down every time, I close all open programs and hibernate it. I do shut it down at least once and week and when required by updates.
I do properly eject my USB devices, or remove them when my computer is off. I learned to do this the hard way 4 years ago when a usb of mine stopped working after I never properly ejected it (that was not with this computer).
I checked Disk Managment. My WD external hard drive is disk 5. Disk 1 is apparently USB drive H.
I have one CD drive.
I just tried the link you provided. I am not sure how accurate the estimate is because I don't fully understand all the components I entered (I couldn't even find my exact processor so I chose a more powerful one). The estimate gives me 478 watts.
