Windows 8.1 Pro Secure Build isnt configured correctly build 9600 watermark

I have recently downloaded the Windows 8.1 Pro version and I now have a "Secure Build isnt configured correctly build 9600" watermark on my desktop. I updated from windows 8 pro to 8.1. I tried to configure the bios to enable secure boot I cant find it anywhere on the BIOS screen. I have an ASUS X401a laptop. I also tried to edit the group policy that enable advanced boot options as well but nothing seems to work. Now my question is this fixable or will my laptop stop working after certain amount of time. This is very frustrating as I use this as my computer for school. Also Windows 8 has been activated since I checked for the key and its fine.

...but the point is that a lot of the posters in this thread don't have this solution available to them, because they don't have these BIOS secure boot settings - the issue needs a Microsoft fix to remove the watermark message where there is no BIOS Secure Boot option

To get into BIOS

try ALT/F2 press both at same time during startup.

it took me 2years to find out for my ASUS notebook....

Thanks for your help. However, I have found the perfect answer on one of the "related content" threads to the upper right. I apologise in advance for not crediting the gentleman/lady concerned but thank you with bells on for your advice which worked a treat and which is pasted in below:

How to remove the “SecureBoot isn’t configured correctly” watermark from the bottom-right corner of your desktop:
- Move your cursor to the top-left corner of the screen, to open the charms panel
- Click on Settings
- Click on Change PC Settings
- In the menu on the left side of your screen, open Update and recovery
- Open Recovery
- Below Advanced Startup, click on the Restartbutton
- After your computer has restarted, click on Troubleshoot
- Click on Advanced Options
- Click on UEFI Firmware Settings
- Restartyour computer
- You will now boot into the BIOSutility of your computer (*)
- In this utility, find and open the Bootmenu
- Look for the Secure Boot option, and enableit
- Savethe new BIOS settings, and rebootyour computer
- The watermark should be gone

On every W8 system I've played with to date, holding down the ESC key as you turn on the machine, and keeping it held down, will come up with the "Boot Options" window - this will allow you to boot from a different device (CD, USB), or enter the UEFI BIOS.

There is a way to set W8 to boot directly to the UEFI settings, it is in the advance restart menu. I don't have a Windows 8 machine here to determine the correct steps, but if no one else pipes up before I can figure it out I'll post the instructions later.

Hi Guys,

I have ASUS N56VM model, It came with windows 7 and last year I upgraded with windows 8 and it works fine but yesterday night I updated with windows 8.1 and its suck my laptop.

My first guess for you is to somehow reinstall your video driver. It took my G55VW close to 3 hours for the 8.1 update to apply, and when it was done I only had to reinstall Vmware Workstation and my WiFi/Bluetooth driver.

To be honest, with as messed up as your system currently is, though, I'm not sure how to accomplish that. I don't even know if W8.1 has a "safe mode".
