There are 72 processes running in my Windows 8.1 PC, are they malicious?

Dear community,

The computer is new.

Im not computer literate but logic tells me 72 processes running in th e back ground is too many?

I don't wish to start turning on/off processes in case I corrupt the machine or messing with programs to deselect ...

start up has only 3 or 4 processes running so not so bad.

Any suggestions on where i can take it in London, uk to be detoxed?

Can I get Microsoft to fix it remotely?

CrowdInspect is only meant an an informative utility to let you know what's going on with your system.

You don't need to kill any process, but if you come across any marked with a red dot, run a good anti-malware application like the free version of Malwarebytes to check them out. Download that from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/free/

    Converted a spare harddrive to NTFS...

    and this was the error message:-

    There was a failure in creating a directory on the backup storage location. 0x8078014B

    additional infromation: access is denied.

    0x80070005

    Sarah,

    Try right click, then Run As Administrator.

    Anivirus running can also cause the 0x8078014B error, but the 0x80070005 only appears if you try to do something on the machine without having sufficient priviliges.

    If you're using a command prompt, you always need  to choose the one called "Command Prompt (Admin)" (right click the Start button to see it)  which is an elevated flavour.

    You can also get that one by typing CMD on the Start menu with the tiles, but you have to right click it and choose "Run As Administrator" before typing any commands.

    Hope all is well with you?

    Apart from not being able to make a backup system image on a healthy 250gb hard-drive..things are okay so far with all your help.

    One thing I would like to ask you again is to talk me through step by step using whatever method to get this system image backup to work.

    The hard-drive is formatted in ntfs as required. ive looked at disk management and everything is 100 per cent okay with the disk drive.

    Through the method of file history, system image backup etc... i got to a dead end once again

    ie.

    There was a failure in preparing the backup image of one of the volume in the backup set. OX807800C5

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The specified backup disk cannot be found. ox80780081.

    I didnt undertstand exactly what you meant by doing it from CMD...so wondered if you could do a snail pace version if you can?

    Hi Sarah,

    It sounds like the external hard drive isn't being detected.

    Try doing the following.

    • Without connecting your external hard drive, hit Windows key + E.
    • You should now be able to see C: and your DVD drive with its own drive letter.
    • Now plug in the external drive. Does it appear as an additional drive?

    If it doesn't, but you have an ordinary USB pen drive, insert that into the same port the external hard drive was connected to. This is just to test the port. You should be able to see it appear in File Explorer (Windows key + E).

    If the USB pen drive appears, but the external hard drive doesn't, then that would indicate a problem with it. That can be checked and possibly repaired, but I'll wait to hear from you before proceeding with instructions.
