To upgrade the operating system to Windows 8.1 without any issues, do the following steps and then check if the installation proceeds.
**Step 1:**Disconnect all the unnecessary external devices connected to the computer (except the mouse and the keyboard).
**Step 2:**If you are using any third-party antivirus software, you may uninstall it and check if you can upgrade to Windows 8.1.
Note:
Even if you disable third party antivirus, Defender will still be running in the computer. This will guard your computer from malware and virus.
**Step 3:**Install all the available updates.
**Step 4:**Install the updated drivers for the hardware.
Step 5: Perform clean boot and then start the upgrade.

**Note:**After checking the functionality in clean boot, follow the suggestions under “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot”.
