Although I have my computer set to notify me when there are updates before I install them, my computer automatically updated

Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320. Do I need this update and why did it load into my computer before I selected. I have searched for some explanation as to what this program is but am unable to find anything. WHAT IS IT?

    Office 365 has been unfortunately barfing a lot lately with it's click to run deployments.  You just rolled your click to run deployment back is all.  Unfortunately with click to run the only solution is a repair install.

    But click to run doesn't use the WU update engine.

    As long as you have windows update turned on - even if it's merely to check for updates but not to install them, this WU engine/plumbing update will occur.

    If you totally turn off updates completely, the minute you manually check for updates the computer system will check as it's very first step that this WU engine is up to date and will make it update.

    I'm setting up a test PC to see if this WU installs.

    Windows updates not related to Office 365 updates I can understand. But the same problem on two computers after the same update and the same fix (restore to before update) solves the problem on both ... that sounds related to me.

    So, if the update did result in the conflict with Office 365, my option is what ... to disable WU updates and never update the Windows Update Agent? Doesn't sound like a workable solution to me.

    Have you come across reports of conflicts between Microsoft Security Essentials and the new Windows Update Agent resulting in error  0xC000000D?

    1.  "Same thing on two computers - home & office. "Do not download or install" is set, but update installed anyway"  = again that is normal.  Anytime you have WU set to anything OTHER than totally disabled, the WU plumbing will get automatic updates.

    2.  the second message is not related.  Office click to run does not use the same mechanism to update as Microsoft update - it uses a streaming process to automatically download and install the Office updates.

    The two symptoms are not related.
