Windows 8.1 BSOD: netwlv64.sys

My Windows 8.1 Pro running on HP 8510w mobile workstation keeps crashing with a Blue Screen of Death STOP error on random accasions.

Bugcheck code 0x000000d1, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQAL in netwlv64.sys

The driver is related to the built-in Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN WLAN module.

This is a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 Pro. Using default Microsoft driver for the wireless module:

Driver Provider: Microsoft

Driver Date: 15.08.2010

Driver Version: 13.3.0.137

There is no driver for Windows 8.1 provided by Intel for this module. The one from Microsoft obviously does not work properly and crashes Windows 8.1.

There is another issue with this driver not re-connecting after standby but this I was able to resolve by disabling 802.11n Mode in advanced device properties (device manager). But this is another topic.

There seems to be something seriously wrong with the driver Microsoft provides and Internet research provides many results about people having the same issue. Does anybody have an idea how to fix the issues?

    I had already disabled the automatic driver update and  the manual driver update in the device manager fails, because the 12.4.3.9 is older than the Microsoft driver (13.3.0.137) and Windows doesn't offer an option to install it anyway.

    So, at the moment, the only way to get rid of this driver seems to be, to delete the inf and sys files from the Windows directory. But that might be a little bit risky. Has anybody experience with that? The driver files appear multiple times an in several subdirectories. Do a have to delete all of them, or only those in one specific folder?

    Have you tried to disable Windows Update search for drivers and then installing 12.4.3.9? To disable Windows Update search follow these steps:

    Also, I would not uninstall the Microsoft driver. I would simply go to the Device Manager, select the wireless network card, select "Update Driver..." -> "Browse my computer for driver software" -> "Let me pick from a list of device drvers on my computer" -> "Have disk" -> point to the location of 12.4.3.9 drivers.

    Hi,

    can you explain, how to deinstall the Microsoft Driver. I downloaded the 12.4.3.9 x64 Driver. When I delete the Microsoft driver in the device Manager and install the 12.4.3.9 Version, Windows automatically reinstalls the Microsoft Driver (13.3.0.137). When I try to delete the 13.3.0.137 by using pnputil.exe, it doesn't work, because pnputil will only let me delete 3rd-party Drivers.

    Would be great, if you or someone else could help me with that Problem.

    On august 6, 2014 there is still no new driver for this wifi chipset. What worked for me was to uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save energy". No need to disable 802.11n.

    I also have this issue on a Dell Latitude D630. None of the workarounds have resolved this problem for me.

    Lame that MSFT has not resolved this headache that has affected many of us.

    Does anyone know of a mini USB network card that is supported by Windows 8.1?

    Reading the whole thread FIRST is the ideal way to find answers to questions asked already... 

    "8.1 is GREAT and stable! Very simple, swap out the old card with a new or used Centrino Ultimate 6300 card and call it a day. Get one for Dell tho, I got the Dell version and VOILA! NO more crash!

    And it is an upgrade to dual band wifi! MUCH faster than the 4965AGN also. Why use OLD drivers on a NEW OS when you can take advantage of the 20 minute upgrade? For me, a no brainer."
