Windows 8 / 8.1 - Num Lock on startup screen

Hi,

When I start up my pc and get to the screen where I need to enter my password, sometimes the NumLock key is activated, sometimes it isn't. This is really random.

I have the same problem on 2 different pc's, one win 8 and the other win 8.1

I think I found a solution that works permanently:

It is also a change in the register but not the one I have read in most posts.

  • You go to the register
  • Open HKEY USERS
  • Open Default
  • Open Control Panel
  • Click on Keyboard
  • On the right side you get 4 keyboard items
  • InitialKeyboardIndicators has a number as data > 2147483648
  • Doubleclick on InitialKeyboardIndicators
  • In the small window you get you change the last 2 numbers from 48 to 50 and get 2147483650
  • Click on ok
  • Close the register window
  • Try again

I have been trying now for more than 10 times and it keeps coming up on time for the login screen no matter if it is a cold start or a restart... I hope it will last :-)

    The registry fix didn´t work for me, but the "disable fast startup" method did work. :P

    I am giving this a try. Always spooky when you mess with the registry. But the other registry fix, the one by PCRoger's video changed 2147483648 to a '2' and that seemed a little drastic. 

    Nil's fix has more beauty.  Those values could mean all sorts of things, so I am going with the big numbers. 

    Where are the real Microsoft people? There is really nothing wrong with saying you haven't a clue. Speak up.

    I have the same problem, but if I hit the numbers lock key everything works for a few minutes after I log in then the computer totally freezes. Same prob on 3 different computers. If I restart when the numbers don't work than everything works fine, but it's  pain
