Thanks Adriaan - I have changed the registry setting and rebooting seems to help.
"Your computer is low on memory" when its clearly not
This problem started when i upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1
When i run a game, for example, Arma3 randomly throughout my game i'll be thrown back to windows desktop and presented with a message saying "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: 'Game name here'"
Screenshot Here
As you can see from the above screenshot i have 2.6gb in use and 5.3 free, so why does it think its out of memory?
I have set my pagefile from "system managed" to 16gb initial - 24gb max
This made no difference whatsoever..
My hardware has not changed, Like i said i noticed this almost instantly after upgrading to 8.1
Any help would be appreciated because as far as i'm aware theres no way to revert back to 8 from 8.1?
Thanks

2014-01-12T06:24:05+00:00 I
m getting the exact same thing. ASUS Gryphon MOBO, 8 GB RAM, no apps running when put to sleep but wakes up with low memory error. Never had a problem on 8.0, only started happening since 8.1. Love these newimprovements` MS includes!!!!! Hoping there is an easy way to go back to 8.0 -

2013-11-19T16:08:37+00:00 I have a similar issue. Exact same error. The game is "Elemental: Fallen Sorceress", it's launched through Steam. On a Surface Pro 2 128GB, the game uses only 500-600 MB RAM. According to Ressource Monitor, total RAM in use on the machine is about 2-2.3 GB when the pop up shows up. A lot more than 1 GB RAM is unused when the pop up appears, usually there's almost 2 GB RAM free (1.5 GB Standby, .5 GB Free).
There's no memory leak issue, otherwise the memory would be in use by the leaking process. In the Resource Monitor I can see that the memory was at no time anywhere near critical. Since the Resource Monitor takes snapshots every seconds, I could only imagine that the application allocates the memory for a few milliseconds and frees it afterwards.
There are no errors in the event viewer error logs at the times this happens.
I found the workaround for this issue, although I can only recommend it for advanced users. One can disable the module that pops the dialog box entirely, which means the dialog box is turned off even if it would make sense for it to pop up. I strongly advise against this solution on systems with 2 GB RAM or less, but on systems like the one the OP is using I see no issue:
