"Your computer is low on memory" when its clearly not

This problem started when i upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1

When i run a game, for example, Arma3 randomly throughout my game i'll be thrown back to windows desktop and presented with a message saying "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: 'Game name here'"

As you can see from the above screenshot i have 2.6gb in use and 5.3 free, so why does it think its out of memory?

I have set my pagefile from "system managed" to 16gb initial - 24gb max

This made no difference whatsoever..

My hardware has not changed, Like i said i noticed this almost instantly after upgrading to 8.1

Any help would be appreciated because as far as i'm aware theres no way to revert back to 8 from 8.1?

Thanks Adriaan - I have changed the registry setting and rebooting seems to help.

    I never had this issue in Windows 8.1, but i do have it in Windows 10 now. The error doesn't point to a specific program, just a general "you're low on memory" error. Just happens when i leave the computer alone. Was there ever a fix for it under Windows 8.1?

    I tried the response suggested by Bennett, but as always it's a useless generic copy-paste response not based on any understanding of the cause of this. Sigh.

    Note that when i have this my desktop turns black too and all (15) icons on it become invisible. I have a computer with 4gb ram (Samsung Smart PC Pro, XE700T1C). The problem persists through multiple Windows reinstalls and it occurs consistently every time the computer wants to hibernate. It also persisted when i completely disabled sleeping and only used hibernating.

    Help?

    Funny *NEVER* had a problem under Windows 7 and the litany of problems under 10 including this one is driving me nuts.    Time and time again it's "not Windows must be that competing program which we want you to dump in favour of our one that's causing the problem".   MS has a track record in screwing up, why not just get on with solving the problem - like telling people up front, if you upgrade to windows 10, your favourite other programs will break but you get your upgrade for free.

    There'll be a fix out there some where, Windows 10 has this week for me to find it before I revert.

    I noticed Google Chrome (Opera too?) seems to have memory leak issues when left open.  I think it's more related to poorly built extensions (Google's too), but in at any rate, I have seen rogue processes when watching or checking task manager.
