"Your computer is low on memory" when its clearly not

This problem started when i upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1

When i run a game, for example, Arma3 randomly throughout my game i'll be thrown back to windows desktop and presented with a message saying "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: 'Game name here'"

As you can see from the above screenshot i have 2.6gb in use and 5.3 free, so why does it think its out of memory?

I have set my pagefile from "system managed" to 16gb initial - 24gb max

This made no difference whatsoever..

My hardware has not changed, Like i said i noticed this almost instantly after upgrading to 8.1

Any help would be appreciated because as far as i'm aware theres no way to revert back to 8 from 8.1?

Thanks Adriaan - I have changed the registry setting and rebooting seems to help.

    My new 8.1 install is doing this too. Seems to happen after the computer wakes from sleep that's when I get the low memory error. And I 16gb of system memory.

    I'd like to throw in a "me too". Happens with "Assassin's Creed Black Flag" with less than 4GB out of 8GB RAM in use according to Task Manager and Process Explorer (Game's usage varies, between 600MB and 1,2GB). No issues under Win 7 Ultimate x64.

    Problem behavior ranges from "Your Computer is low on Memory" dialog to App Crash to desktop.

    System:

    • Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center
    • Laptop Fujitsu Lifebook E852 vPro
    • Core i7-3612QM @2.10GHz
    • RAM 8,00 GB (7,85 GB usable)
    • System type 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
    • Gfx: Intel HD4000, no separate Gfx card.
    • 512 GB SSD with >300GB free space.

    All drivers are up-to-date according to Fujitsu's support page.

    Hi,

    Do you face this issue only while playing any games? If so, do you get this error even when playing games other than arma 3?

    This issue could be caused due to some incorrect settings. Sometimes, you might face such issues if there is a memory leak in one of the programs. I would suggest you to try these steps and check:

    First, I would suggest you to run the ‘System maintenance’ troubleshooter which can automatically scan and perform the required maintenance tasks, and also fix any incorrect settings that could be causing issues. Refer to these steps to run this troubleshooter:

    a)      Press Windows key +F to bring up the search Charms bar.

    b)      Select settings in the drop down menu below search and type Troubleshooting.

    c)       Click on Troubleshootingand select the view all option on the left pane.

    d)      Click on System maintenance troubleshooter and follow the prompts.

    I would also suggest you to make sure that you have installed the latest graphic card driver from the manufacturer’s website to make sure that the driver is not causing any issue or memory leak.

    If the issue persists, I would suggest you to check the Event viewer logs for error logs around recent date and time when you got this error to find out the root cause of this issue. Refer to these steps:

    a)      Go to the Start Screen, type in Event Viewer. This will bring up the Event Viewer tile, Click to open the event viewer.

    b)      In the left pane, expand out Windows Logs. Click on Application log and highlight the first event in the log and use your arrow keys to scroll down.

    c)       Most of your event will be Information. You may see Yellow Warnings or Red Errors. If you see any red error, you can double click on it to bring it up and copy the contents in your reply.
