Windows update successfully installs KB2802618 repeatedly

So I've been trying to get this to work. This was what I get, 1 1/2 hrs wasted The bottom is the chat log of the remote session.

This is the most unprofessional **** and waste of time I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED!!!!

no error message.. it installs SUCCESSFULLY over and over and over and over and over and over

I've installed it prob 100x

Basically I've found 8.1 upgrade but my Windows 8 product key isn't working of course

There was rumors of a fix but no fix, and this was about 2 weeks ago. I've been waiting but nothing.

It's not an error.. It installs.. but then says it needs to install.. So it's stuck in an endless loop in a sense

this solution - which I assume is the same as the one with the link to installing 8.1 with a product key - DID WORK FOR ME.  I did it from the installing 8.1 with a product key site ( http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only), and I did not create a USB stick but simply downloaded the extraction pack to my pc and ran it. 

!! Thank you to Cyberium and rdunton who seem to have figured this out !!!

I would recommend NOT bothering with all the various (and fruitless) suggested machinations around trying to manually download missing updates, running the update troubleshooters, or running DISM or sfc /scannow, or whatever other time-wasting solution that's been recommended, because, as noted in this forum, none of those ultimately work.  (Trust me, I tried them all)

Just swallow hard and believe that you needn't go through all that pain for 8.1 to work well once you've installed it.  At least that was the case for me; and for installing from Windows 8 (not 7).

if you don't have an 8.1 key (I didn't) just call Microsoft live and complain bloody murder and IF you have an 8.0 key I will bet they will give you an 8.1 key (as they did with me).

Well after one week of waiting i finaly tryed that solution to update my windows to 8.1 ->

Using that trick and that workaround (with general serial) to install 8.1 is the worst way i never used to upgrade my system. Thank microsoft...

Anyway for the who whant to try, i simply choosed usv stick way and then when the stick with the update is created i have launched setup application. In the menu i choosed to keep all my data and apps and it worked.

After 8.1 installation i activated my copy with purchased windows 8 key that i used before.

Entire process take me about 2 hours.

Cyberium.  Can you say if you had word or office installed before you did this.
