Cannot log in: local account replaced with MS account and MS account inaccesable

I have been using my laptop with my local account - i.e. NOT an MS account - up until now.

Today I wanted to use Skype on the laptop for the first time. Skype requires the use of an MS account. Hence I created a dummy MS account (@outlook.com) with which I logged in and used Skype.

LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO USE MY LOCAL ACCOUNT TO LOGIN ANYMORE!!!

I have the original user-id and password for my local account well documented (and protected).

BUT now I cannot log in with the MS account I created because some problem with the password (it has been blocked due to too many erroneous tries I reckon). Since it was meant to be a dummy account which I did not intend to use in the future I did not bother completing the form and take note of such things as security question, alternative e-mail, telephone etc.

NOW WHAT???

I WANT MY LOCAL ACCOUNT BACK!!!

What can I do??? I am desperate for help on this issue.

PS: I created another MS-dummy account with which I am posting this question.

    Thanks for your answer Shawn.

I will await your feedback if in case there is a straight forward way to "recover" the 'User1' account. Until then I will wait with your suggested solution of dragging 'User1' into 'User2'.

BUT in case I choose the dragging 'User1' into 'User2' solution: how do I recover the local Outlook mails stored locally?

I remain stuck, unable to deploy any of the suggestions offered because they all need me to verify my account and, due to the deletion of my MS account, I am unable to do that.

I note that, despite a fair amount of activity on this thread, no one has addressed my problem in a couple of days. I am hoping that doesn't mean my problem has no solution.

I don't know what to do if MS support can't/won't help and no one here has encountered a problem like this. I'm growing increasingly desperate and discouraged.

You can always do what I did: boot from a Linux-USB -> replace seth.exe with cmd.exe -> create new admin account -> and then

    1. either use that account (which is an OK solution)

    or

    1. unlink the old local account (if hopefully Shawn is able to come to the rescue with how to do that from the newly created account)

I think it is pretty good solution given the circumstances you (we) are in :-)

I very much appreciate the suggestion but fear that there would be a learning curve to implementing it. Perhaps you can direct me to a resource with detailed step-by-step instructions for acquiring a Linux-USB, booting from it, navigating the changes you suggest, etc.?

    Thanks!

I'd go ahead and proceed with dragging your files over to the new account and just deleting the old User1 account.

You mentioned Outlook files.  You can drag those over also (the PST or PSO file that the emails are stored in).  Or if your Outlook connects to any online email provider (like a company Exchange server or something like Gmail/Outlook/Live/Hotmail/MSN/etc), then you don't need to do anything.  You can just add the account to Outlook in the new profile and it will sync all your mail again.

Of course you aren't in any hurry to delete the old account. So just use User2 and if you happen to come across something you need, you can go get it from User1.  When you've done this for a few weeks you could probably go ahead and just delete the User1 account.
