Dear sir /madam

I am a new windows user ,

And been disabled after a stroke left me with out right side function, which left me less feeling  a person.

But with windows 8.1 on a tablet has opened up a whole new world .

The only problem is that their are so many types of windows tablet out , and also different specs.

With many People on a budget it is important that the tablet you buy is right.

Their are different CPUs , ram, hdd, sizes .

But I assumed that if the tablet could run windows 8.1 , then the tablet would be pretty good spec.

I brought a 8 inch touch Lenovo mix 2 8. Which is a Intel quid core , with a 2 gb ram and 32 gb had .

And it has windows 8.1 and office student included for £240

The problem I have learnt know after using for one week is the hdd space has dropped from 32gb to just 10gb

And I found out every time I install a windows 8.1 app it installs to the c: drive as default.

and you cannot change drive to install to.

I.e I have put in a micro 64gb ad card and I could install windows apps to that card I would free up main c: drive.

Why can't you change Install  Drive for apps .

It just seems to me that Microsoft don't want you use windows 8.1 and to get so fed up that people shy away from it.

Because of range of different specs from smart phones and tablets , they all have one thin in common , they have expansion slots.

And in order for customers to use windows 8.1 properly people need to have access to their sd card as a drive for windows apps to save to.

At the moment I have had to format my tablet 5 times to free up my main hard drive , just so I can install different apps to try .

And unless I have a massive budget to buy a tablet with a say 250 gb main drive , then I cant enjoy windows properly

.and I would have thought that windows want you to buy as many apps as possible .

I here windows are doing a spring update , I think they should include a patch so people can change the default drive for window's apps

    Just a suggestion.

    My tablet only has 16Gb of on board flash.

    It would be good to be able to install and run windows from a memory card and use the 16Gb as a cache (readyboot). ie run windows from a 64Gb memory card

    To be honest I was completly unaware of this issue when buying my tablet. Like everyone else here I looked up for slution with no luck. Since Microsoft can't be even bothered giving us any statement why this option has been disabled , if they are actually doing anything to re-enable it, I can only say that I am going to spread the word wherever I can, and make sure all my friends stay away from Windows 8.1 tablets!

    Thank you - ythis is exactl;y what I want to do but on my win 8.1 tablet with the user defined as administrator I cannot take ownership in the registry.  I get the message 'Unable to save permission changes on Apps    Access is denied.  

    Can someone please advise how to overcome this as I would like to implement this solution.

    I have looked everything up, gone to the Permissions for appx but cannot either change the owner from TrustedInstaller or give additional permissions to another user in the system.

    It is very unfortunate that, still now Microsoft has not taken any actions regarding this problem for Windows 8.1 users like us.

    Is there anyone from Microsoft who can solve this problem? Or Microsoft don't want to solve this problem at all? Someone from Microsoft please let us know

    Don't forget - you can move all your personal data (Documents, pictures, videos, downloads, favourites and your OneDrive folder) to the SD card.... apps themselves actually take up very little space...

    Nooooo, this kind od tweak help but really didn't solve the problem. 

    Some app take really many space (like Mail, Comicology and many game take up to 1gb ) a 32gb tablet, completely clean you have something 8gb. I have no picture/video etc and onedrive is all offline & after a month my drive is full !

    And new low end tablet with 16gb, without this feature is completely useless, you will able to install 3-4 app that is stupid!
