You didn't mention this in any of your previous replies. As long as the Mar-14 update was installed, don't worry about the Nov-13 update.

You also didn't tell me you'd replaced MSE with AVG Free (though posts in your other threads suggested you may have done so). Answering my questions would have saved both of us lots of time & grief.

If MSE's no longer installed, ignore the Defs update error. That being said, there's a very strong chance the MSE wasn't installed or working properly. If such is the case, chances are the same applies to AVG & any other AV app you chose to install.

4. I am using Windows XP-I just noticed that 'Defraggler' is installed under 'Program Files' but I do not recall installing it. Was it pre-installed with Windows XP, was it installed automatically when I installed another program, or would I have manually installed it at some point?

I use the built-in Defragmenter so I have no need for both Defragmenter and Defraggler-Is one better than the other and can Defraggler be uninstalled without causing any issues?

Sorry, but that's incorrect.

The penultimate Root Certificates update was released on 12 November 2013. The most recent Root Certificates update was released on 11 March 2014. [As usual, for some unknown reason, KB931125 references the penultimate Nov-13 update while the file from the Download Center references the Mar-14 update.]

FWIW I fired up my ol' WinXP box earlier this month and the Mar-14 Root Certificates was offered when I ran a CUSTOM scan for updates. [In Vista, Win7 & Win8, Root Certificates update are silently/automatically installed when they're released.]

I bought a Windows 8.0 laptop and then upgraded to 8.1 so you won't see me in the XP forums very much anymore.

That was also necessary because my bank will block access to users running Windows XP from April 8 which would mean I wouldn't be able to use Internet banking anymore.

As regards your question re: Root Certificates updates for XP, these maintain the same KB number throughout the lifecycle of the operating system so you'll always see it displayed as KB931125.
