Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

I have been working on this problem for months and have, through experimenting, found the following:

Applies to Intel 6235:

As of Feb. 25 2014, Intel drivers for BT and WiFi are still defective.

Generic Windows drivers work, but are limited, no BT 4.0 support.

Regarding WiFi drop outs, the problem seems to be related to the radio channel switching.

Normally, the channel is set to auto and is selected based on some protocol.

I have manually set the channel on my router from 1 to 11 and tested the connection on my notebook and the results showed that any channel other than 6 would drop and the signal low.

With my router set to the center, ch6, I no longer have drop out problems!

My suggestion to all is to set your WiFi to the center channel till further notice.

I had this problem and solved it by replacing the

windows version of my wireless network adapter driver with the manufacturers instead.

Specifically I selected the Broadcom driver instead of the Microsoft driver.

Well.. The current status is that since I uninstalled by the setup the driver, removed the installed driver in the device manager too for the Wifi, rebooted, installed the .279(got it from the Asus Support), but even that this alone didn't helped itself, I also had some updates from MS(they came some days later after I got the driver and around one week from now back) and since installed them, since the 07.02.2014 I haven't drops anymore.. Don't want to paint the devil on the wall, but till now no drops. anymore.. I think for Fyreman907, you could have a hardware fault or just driver fault as the win7 driver for the AR9485 are even there not very know for "stability"...  I think that for most user there is a special mixture of driver fault and OS shits..

I'm having the exact same issue on my Asus laptop. It started soon after I updated to 8.1. Last week it wouldn't connect at all. I thought it was my wifi card. I took it in for repair and it turned out to be the software. They had to do a refresh. I just got it back today. And a few minutes ago it disconnected on me again.

It seems there may be many fixes to this common problem. I too was getting repeated "limited" readings on my wifi at random intervals.  I read through all these posts and nothing seemed to work until I figured out that my 7 year old Belkin router, which was fine for my Windows XP PC and newer iPhone/iPad, was not compatible with Windows 8.1.  Perhaps obvious for the more tech savvy among us but not to mortals like me: go to the Microsoft Compatibility site and check that your router is good with Windows 8.1.  I got a new, simple, Cisco/Linksys EA2700 and everything works fine now, including my wireless printer which also didn't work with the old Belkin.
