Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

Since installing 8.1 Pro, I'm having issues with WiFi dropping internet connectivity and always showing "Limited" when clicking on the system tray icon.  When I troubleshoot the problem using the system tool it is always the gateway that is faulty.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled the device drivers several times, installed the newest drivers directly from Intel, restarted the computer, etc.  I can restore connectivity by turning WiFi off then back on, but the connection will drop at what seems to be random intervals.  My applicable system specs are as follows;

Lenovo Y510P  Laptop

Windows 8.1 Pro

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230

Apple Time Capsule router w/newest firmware

Needless to say this is quite an irritating bug that didn't exist prior to the update to 8.1  I hope this can be resolved quickly. Thanks!

    I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH WI-FI CONNECTION. PLUS SIDE-BY-SIDE CONFIG INCORRECT ERROR AND OTHER FILE PROBLEMS THAT COMPLETELY INCAPACITATE MY PC. NOT GOOD ENOUGH I WANT MY COMPUTER REPLACED BY MICROSOFT IT IS NOW A PIECE OF ****. i SPENT A LOT GETTING IT JUST RIGHT THEN I LISTEN TO MICROSOFT PRESSURES TO UPGRADE . DONT TELL ME THEY DID NOT KNOW OF HALF THE PROBLEMS THAT I NOW HAVE. TRY AND CONTACT THEM AND YOU WILL GET NOWHERE . GEORGE GIBSON

    Yes, I think blame should be shared between Microsoft and Intel. Hovedverk, the cost of trying to fix it falls only on me. I've put in a lot of hours, and bought replacement equipment, trying misc tips&tricks but without luck. I have now invested significantly in a new router and a new wifi card, since Intel didn't sign their 3945abg drivers and Microsoft from Win 8.1 didn't let me accept usigned drivers as they used to.

    MY CLEAR ADVICE : DO NOT UPGRADE WINDOWS FROM 8.0  TO 8.1 YET !!!

    ...want until they have resolved this issue, which I beileve has many faces, coming from the same root cause, which must be a pretty fundamental change in the IP stack that has led to a lot of side issues that have a lot of different ways of resolution. It May be DNS related...

    Hello I faced same problem when i updated my Windows 8 laptop to 8.1.

    My problem got solved by doing one simple step.

    1. Do login in to router from another laptop
    2. Go to wireless setting
    3. go to Bridge
    4. Go to channel and change channel number. in my system by default Channel was in AUTO mode. I changed it and make it 5.

    In few sec my 8.1laptop connected to wifi perfectly.

    Hope this will work.

    I ran into the same issue described in the thread. I use Windows 8.1, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 (ASUS UX31A) and DLink (DIR-655) wireless router.

    I think it's a combination of both Intel and Microsoft issue. None of the configuration tricks work for me (rollback driver, disable 802.11n/Bluetooth/power save, etc.).

    I ended up disabling Intel N6235, and plugged an external USB wifi adapter (it's originally used in my raspberry pi). It's now working perfectly.

    I will blame Intel more as I can only find a "hardware solution".

    Hi.

    What you describe is 100% identical to the behaviour of my Acer Aspire S7 with Windows 8.1.

    Only, setting IPv4 static DNS addresses worked for me. I know it sounds strange and doesn't make any sense, since the DNS addresses are the same when they are receieved from the router dynamically, but it actually worked. I don't have the time to research this, so I just made a tool that helps me out when I use my computer at another location (It finds the new DNS addresses and sets them static) until MS fixes this.
