Windows 8.1: WiFi dropping and/or "Limited"

Same problem here on an Acer E1-571. Bought it half a year ago with Windows 8. 'Upgraded' it a couple of weeks ago to 8.1 via the Windows shop (for free - thank you Microsoft :-(  ) . Now I find myself toggling the wifi connection at each wake-up. All other devices on the same network keep on running smooth (another Windows laptop, a puppy Linux desktop and two Android phones).

Been asking Acer support to help. Poor guys are running in circles: Did you upgrade the wifi driver? Tried the 'Vonnie solved'? Are you on the latest version of your bios? ...

Can't understand big companies just keep you hanging on (does that sounds like Kim Wild?). Maybe I missed the correct reply in the chain. But some engineer might answer something like: 'We are working on it. Hope to solve it in a couple of days.' or 'We still believe it is your network not functionning.' ... .

I had this issue with 8.1, tried updating and resetting this, that and everything under the sun. The wifi issues get passed around from one company to the next. All I know is I reverted back to my factory installed version of windows 8 and everything ran smoothly again, even so I remain angry with Microsoft for allowing this issue to fester as some people are unable to revert back, thus their device is rendered next to useless.

Is there anyone reading these threads that works for Microsoft? Time to phone in.

People are still having the issue. I followed advice from one poster and disabled "wmm" in the wireless card setting. This resolved my issue. I had no idea what wmm did until I googled it. Disabling wmm has kept my laptop working on wireless since my last post. But not sure this is something I wish to keep disabled, as this helps with the streaming media online. Not missing the feature so far. But would rather find a more sensible solution. I don't buy this being a card problem, since not everyone has an intel card on their laptops. (me included) All started with 8.1 update as did everyone else.

Why are you (Microsoft) not giving us feed back other than some lame random answer to the issues we are having? This must be addressed sooner rather than later. Please respond with logical answers.

Yes, let us start on each other. That will solve everything. What you post here says more about you and your intelligence than DarksideHop12's. The fact that setting static DNS actually works, proves this (my variant of the problem) to be faulty software. That, I know. I also know that this is a poor workaround because it demands a manual DNS change for every new place you go, as pointed out above.

It's ok to insult people but not have a rant is it?

I along with many others are fed up with the lack of response from Microsoft, and this lack of response can make people including myself very angry that a Windows update can break so many devices.

My Laptop is six months old and was working perfectly well up to the point of installing the Windows 8.1 updated.

It also corrupted my graphics card driver, thankfully this was easier to put right. 

Believe me I have done plenty of research and everywhere you look on the internet you will find that it is the 8.1 update that has caused these latest problems.
