Cant use windows 8.1 Windows Easy Transfer on Windows 8.1

I updated from Windows 8 to the new Windows 8.1.

I want to CREATE a Windows Easy Transfer file on the Windows 8.1 machine.  When using WET, it just does not have that option.  Is this discontinued in Windows 8.1 or a bug?

Is there a way to create a WET file on the 8.1 machine?

    Hi,

     

    Windows Easy Transfer is removed from Windows 8.1.

    Items that now can be easily transfered by using SkyDrive in combination with other services and tools, such as Xbox Music to back up your music collection, and File History to keep files always backup and up-to-date.

    Sure, SkyDrive and cloud services are fine for apps that use the cloud, but how exactly am I supposed to migrate my application settings (which are not files and are not cloud connected) from one Win 8.1 system to another? USMT? What if I'm not an enterprise? I suppose if that's the case I'm just screwed.

    I sure hope leaving Windows Easy Transfer out of Windows 8.1 solved some massively serious engineering issue that couldn't have been addressed in any other way, because just dropping it to push customers over to SkyDrive/Cloud is just, what's the word? Oh yes. STUPID.

    Windows 8.1 can import an exported WET results (network or external drive exports) from Windows 7, Windows 8...  So, unless you have to use a transfer USB cable exclusively and/or you are upgrading from an older OS - you may still be okay.

    Although, in the end, some people find WET missed as much as it grabbed without manual intervention.  Sometimes a copy/paste (or storing stuff on a NAS backed up automatically to another NAS over the network) gives better results.

    So I spent hours and hours trying to follow the online sources, the support desk folks, and wasted my time because I upgrade my new PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 before transferring my data? The support desk at Microcenter thought I was crazy and a stupid end-user. How the **** are you to transfer GBs of data? My internet connection is NOT unlimited. Thanks for making me a future Apple customer. I guess that iPhone and iPad decision is a lot easier. Too bad, I really liked the Dell Vue 8 and the new Windows phones. No more Windows. Period.

    Sometimes a manual copy is better, but given you have Windows 7...  You can still transfer to a USB drive or network share location and import from the same location on your new computer.

    Really not happy as have spent £15 on an easy transfer cable and thought the process of moving data from a windows 7 laptop to a windows 8.1 wold be a breeze.  At least this now explains why I can't get anywhere.      When I do a search in 8.1 for windows easy transfer it comes up but when I try and get it to run when connected to the windows 7 laptop I canot get anywhere.  Thanks for the wasted hours over my Christmas break!
