I have downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store but cannot get it to install. Each time I try, I get to the point where it is "getting my devices ready", then the PC restarts to a blue screen with error message. It then tries to recover the installation, fails, then restores Windows 8. When the system boots up after this, I get a message saying:
"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1
Sorry, we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC.
0xC1900101 - 0x40017"
There is n o explanation as to why the update could be completed. Any ideas how to resolve this?

Same old MS SH*t! I just upgraded BIOS, and LAN plus audio drives and the upgrade failed as per Microsoft usual **** software.
Maybe they should re-think doing development in third world countries where they can pay discount wages. That must be the case because I can't imagine slop like this coming from U.S. development!
No activity here since Feb 18th. Does this mean that the issue have been solved now and that the update is working now? :-)
Nahh, just tried to upgrade again and it failed.
I still can't figure out why and neither have I found the log that might tell me. Has anyone had any luck locating the log that shows which device is making the upgrade fail?
I'm running the latest version of the NVidia driver and everything is also updated to latest driver as far as I know.
Maybe the Update 1 For Windows 8.1 that is coming soon will help? Anyone heard anything about this?
Had an 'important' update for Win 8, from MS, unfortunately since upgrading my update history has cleared so am unable to give you update number, also installed Driver Update from Ashampoo, which found a few problems and rectified same. Set the update in motion from the icon, went to lunch, watched rugby on TV, came back after about four hours just in time to install my details. Previously, in October, I must have tried a dozen times before giving-up.
66 page long thread and still no solution. Only choice is to not upgrade or move to Apple.
