Microsoft Fix It encountered an unexpected problem and cannot continue.

No I have not been scammed they are bone fidei help desk employees (I checked that out independently). Unlike the **** that called me yesterday from Cyber Security. It cost him a 35 minute call before he finally twigged that I was taking the mick.

Since we last communicated (I will miss our little sessions) I have had to re install the OS. Some really odd situations. The mouse stopped working but not the keyboard (on the same usb dongle! Then I could not boot up. I inserted the disc and tried a repair. That failed, although the mouse started working again. I then tried to roll back and that ran but reported an error. I decided to try again with an earlier position but there were no install points available. In the end I pulled the plug, reformatted and started again. Almost all updates have been installed now and Alberto is calling back later to check that all is ok.

Here is an odd one, immediately after the fresh install I ran SFC /scannow and guess what? Yep it reported some corrupt files. They could only have come from the disc or the updates loaded during the installation.

Thanks for all your help Gerry, I think what we were trying to achieve was an impossible task but I am very grateful to you for trying.

It sounds that you have been an intended victim of a scam. This does not sound like a genuine Microsoft Support site. Letting others directly access your computer over the internet is the way they operate.

Please provide an updated copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload to your OneDrive (formerly Sky Drive), share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

When I do as you told me I get the 800B0100 error and no updates. In fact my previous updates have also disappeared.

I came across another problem. I decided to have a game of Spider. When I went to activate windows components I was asked to wait and then the box remained emptier than Mother Hubbard's larder. In searching for a solution I came across Microsoft support and so started a web chat. Initially I was told that as I had a problem with updating as well as components he would look into the problem for free. He advised that if the issue was caused by a 3rd party software installation the solution would be charged. We proceeded on that basis.

He took over my pc remotely and I sat and watched a slow motion film of the last 10 days. He eventually settled on a solution from Bleeping Computers. Whilst it ran I went and watched the first half of Germany and Brazil. When I returned the programme had and when I signed back on a new agent took up the reins. She initially told me it would cost £95 or I could upgrade to Windows 8 for $115. I pointed out that I do not want W8 and that whilst the OS may be subject to a 90 support limit, updates were not. When I bought W7 I was assured that I would be supported with updates until at least 2015 and the last time I checked we were in 2014. She then offered a free service subject to the third party rule.

Once again she accessed my pc remotely and redid most of what we did. She kept checking updates and kept getting the good old 800B0100 error (has no one at Microsoft thought to link a solution to the error code). Anyway I missed the second half of the match and by 11.15pm had, had just about enough. Fortunately at that point she decided to escalate the problem and they are due to call be back between 18.00 and 20.00 today. 

I felt a bit guilty as you have been so kind and patient and oddly some updates do appear to be getting through, but I think it is now Microsoft's turn to suffer some pain and inconvenience, after all they sold me the OS.

So please accept a massive thank you for what you have done so far. I will let you know how the problem was resolved (if it ever is) as it may help some other poor sod.  As for why I cant turn windows components on and off neither agent had any idea but did agree to look into that once the update issue was resolved.

Stand by. As was said by a more famous personality than me, "I'll (probably) be back"!

Most of the updates have installed. Simply do what I told you to do earlier. Select Start, All Programs, Windows Update, Check for Updates. Check the box before one of the updates you want to install, click on Install and click again on Install in the next window and the process of installing starts. You should let the process proceed without interruption. Multi-tasking at the time updating is in progress is unwise. The progress window will tell you what is going on. You need to be patient. Restart your computer when prompted to do so. Repeat the procedure with the next update. If one fails to install move on to the next update. You only install what is listed there.
