I installed the new W8.1 update 1 today. I find the new Metro App titlebar totally stupid, useless, and very annoying. It apparently only shows on computers with a mouse attached.
Is there a way to disable this titlebar? I hear it may officially be called a "window menu".
I have been using Stardock's ModernMix to make Modern/Metro useful. ModernMix is what the new update should have been. Having this new titlebar popping up across the top of my screen when using windowed modern apps is really annoying!
BTW, what is it nowadays, Modern, Metro, or Retro? lol
Edit 04-10-2014: Stardock got this solved real slick with their new ModernMix 1.14 beta. They even managed to add a window option to the titlebar, which still shows in full screen mode. Nice! When you reduce a modern app down to a window, the title bar is disabled.
Pretty slick! I can't understand why Stardock is so good at this stuff but it takes Microsoft multiple versions over multiple years to get to the same place, maybe!

Indeed, the "Store" app has tab-like constructs along the top of the display, using a mouse to navigate between each of these is made difficult due to this dropdown titlebar.
I understand pleasing everybody no matter what you do is difficult, but I feel that in cases like this it should be an option (maybe even for each application but globally would work fine in my case [I'd disable it]).
I have a use case where this pop-up interferes with the screen.
When using XAML Spy to debug a store app there is a small "XAML Spy" button near the top of the screen. The normal way to reach it is to push the mouse to the top and then move across, if necessary, rather than carefully aim for it. However, with this update the Title Bar pops-up over the button.
Very annoying.
When I first got Windows 8.1 I was a bit puzzled by the lack of a task bar on store apps. Pretty soon I found out how to use the mouse to close and move an app. After that I was happy with the new layout.
After I had adjusted to using the mouse with the original 8.1 UI this update arrived with a new way of doing the same thing. I don't like this new-new way. Eventually I found it so frustrating that I wanted to disable it, and started looking for an option
I just don't like that title-bar popping up. It's intrusive.
I am looking for a solution here, our app Shopperbies uses the top right hand corner to close various forms and sometimes when users move the mouse too quickly to the close button the title bar appears and the user closes the app instead of the form within the app.
It has a significant usability conflict with the Remote Desktop Metro app from my experience, and I know there are other apps out there which will be affected by this stupid black bar. To elaborate more on my experience, the app can accidentally be closed to terminate the whole session by just trying to close a maximized Desktop app inside the Remote Session.
PS only saw some one mentioned this already after posting mine. haha.
