Copy Paste dialog not displayed in the foreground or as the focus window

every time I copy or paste & the dialog needs me to answer an overwrite, etc... the focus of the window doesn't come to the foreground of all the open windows.

VERY annoying.

Sounds like its the graphics card driver causing the issue. This isn't the expected behavior in windows. Graphics cards and shell programs can cause this issue.

    Depressingly this issue is still present in Windows 10 Tech Preview Build 9879.

    There are no Chrome processes running but if Chrome can cause the issue I'm sure a number of other apps also can and I have too many running to eliminate one by one - guess Skype would be a contender.

    Not only have progress dialogs and dialogs waiting for decisions disappeared, but I have just copied and pasted a 12Gb folder (in the same explorer window) to a mapped drive and got no progress of any kind.  No hidden dialogs in the Alt-Tab list or by hovering over the icon and the explorer window stayed open (and is still open as I type). The only way to see progress is to watch the destination folder and see the number of items increasing in the info at bottom left.

    Have just tried another copy/paste of about 400Mb in exactly the same way and got a perfect on-top dialog - so definitely sporadic and if I was superstitious I'd say it was watching me type this. Retried so files would exist and again the dialog was on top, but if I removed all but the last file and retried, so the warning comes up at the end, I can lose the dialog by focussing elsewhere, and have to rely on the red flashing icon.

    I can fully understand the need in some instances to allow other activity while copying (like moaning about this)  but it would be really nice to have control. A system-modal progress dialog with a "copy in the background" button that would make it non-modal and even an "always do this" option and Folder Options to control this and the behaviour when a conflict is found (jump to top or flash taskbar icon).

    I have a secondary unrelated (I think) problem that after a few hours the taskbar icons start to lose their pictures and roll-over images (possibly to do with large monitor scaling). When that happens, the explorer dialog problem gets worse as the icon does not flash red and you have to guess which icon it is anyway!

    I installed Windows 8.1 a few days ago and I am having this issue. It is the most annoying problem I've encountered by far. Every single dialog box relating to File Explorer such as conflicts, errors, or transfer progress will appear in the background so I'll never see it. So I'll try and copy a folder/file or to something to a new location and it won't work. I'll just be like, "why isn't this transferring?" then I'll find that stupid dialog box that has 10 of the same conflict message that i need to respond to... "By design"? Really? If that is true then whoever "designed" this needs to be moved to a different department where he can't ruin the entire interface. Why would it even make sense to launch it in the background? "File Explorer requires a response, but we aren't actually going to let you know or get your attention. You are just going to have to find the dialog box yourself..." REALLY intuitive, Microsoft. You really knocked it out of the park on that one. IT'S SO FRUSTRATING!! If I didn't have dual touchscreen monitors I would have already gone back to windows 7.

    I can confirm that it isn't chrome related because I haven't downloaded or installed chrome yet and it still does it.

    Please tone down your attitude and be respectful. There are terms of service that cover behavior and posting on this forum.

    As far as relevancy, to clear it up for you, Google seems to cause the issue. I included two possible reasons why so that other users that find this public thread can keep a look out on how it behaves and maybe they can also add some info they discover which can narrow down the cause. This is how a community works.

    A solution is to remove chrome but maybe another user would like to keep it and narrow down the cause.
