Windows 8.1 error: "thread stuck in device driver"

After installing the Windows 8.1 update without issue, every time I turn on my computer a screen appears that saying that there was an error when the last session ended, and that the issue pertains to "thread_stuck_in_device_driver". This has occurred every time for the last 6 days, and I have used system restore and Windows Update and the issue still remains. Has anyone found a solution to a similar problem?

The Dell support page offers a few things to check, but says if all else fails, replace the video card.

Maybe replacing the video card is worth it to get rid of all the headaches.

THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER

This Blue Screen error indicates that a device driver-almost always a video card driver-is stuck waiting for something (usually a hardware operation) to happen. Most of you have probably seennv4_disp.sys associated with this Blue Screen.

Ensure the video drivers are updated to the latest Dell version.
The system BIOS is fully up-to-date.
If both the video driver and the system BIOS are fully up-to-date, check with the manufacturer for recent driver updates.
As a last resort, try exchanging the video card.

Note: Reinstalling Windows is not likely to prevent this error from reoccurring.

I have just done the same as the above - loaded 8.1. Everything has gone very slow.

I have Thread stuck in device driver and Catalyst control center host app has stopped working.

Whats going on please ?

Also I don't know what you mean - Press windows key + X ie where is device manager ?

Hi, I have this problem now for months, and what is really annoying is that this is a MS website yet it is blaringly obvious that whether they check it or not, they really don't give two hoots about this problem as no solution has been posted.

It is a Microsoft problem as Window 8 (**** though it is) worked ok, yet once the update was done, this happens continuously. However it does seem to be confined to Inspiron 15R, which apart from this problem I have found to be ok. I did ask on purchase whether it would be possible to get the laptop with windows 7 but they are obviously tied into a deal with MS as that option was unavailable.

Basically the problem is a problem with both Dell and Microsoft and neither appear to give a sh**. I am going to post negative reviews on the Inspiron and Dell on every review site I can find, maybe that will get their attention. I also suggest those that are within the one year period hassle Dell for a solution,

I have had the same problem.

I have updated all of my drivers and I still get the same results.

My Dell laptop Inspiron has to reboot every time I try to boot up and

ever since I installed Windows 8.1 my speed has drastically been reduced. I thought about

doing a system restore back to windows 8, but other users say that doesn't work or

that you cant do that. Does this seem to plague only Dell laptop users? If so maybe we should check with Dell??
