Windows Live Mail can not copy hyperlinks from one e-mail to another.

Hey all.

Long story short, I am writing this for my mother who current runs a dog boarding business as well as various other e-mail accounts, ranging from fan clubs to personal ones. She has a draft e-mail saved which contains information and links she would COPY and PASTE into e-mails prior to sending them. Essentially, these are signatures. No matter which signature she copies and pastes, each one has at least one weblink.

As of yesterday, when copying and pasting that information, the link does not copy with the text. Instead of pasting the text as a hyperlink, like she has been able to, it simply shows the text without any clickable option.

I have double checked the options, Read all messages in plain text is unticked, as well as the Mail Sending Format and News Sending Formation both being set to HTML.

Can anyone help please?

    I've escalated the issue to our Engineers for investigation.

    Ron, Hoge's simple solution might have wider-reaching consequences. Can I urge upon you the need for testing this solution rigorously with a view to publishing a KB Fixit like the one that was produced for server error 3204?

    Tom, don't be too quick to write this off as a bad job. I hardly dare say this, but having made Hoge's recommended change to the registry (it's really a very simple change that can't hurt), I did a little experiment. I found one of Electrojim's messages that wouldn't forward with pictures intact. I forwarded it to one of my spare accounts. It arrived intact . . .

    I don't know, either. The HKCU entry in IE\Main was not there after running the reg file. Not to worry, the value did get added in four places (HKCU, HKLM, 32- and 64-bit) and I now see intelligible HTML generated by Windows Live Mail.

    There must be some reason why this suddenly started happening with IE11; I've been though IE9, 10 and 11 and, while there have been oddities with each new release, this particular one hasn't been there before.

    I wonder if this solution might also correct some of the other rendering faults we've seen.

    Hi Ron

    Thanks for owning this problem and finally getting it flagged to your engineers.  In view of this I will not start messing with the Registry as I regard the risk as way too high for the average user.

    I have two questions:

    • Why it has taken Microsoft eight months to realise there is an issue?
    • How long to you think it will take for a patch to be released?

    64bit reg files may not be necessary. 32bit reg files may apply to both 32bit and 64bit windows.
