I am experiencing a similar problem. I have an HP desktop and a Xerox Phaser 6300. After the upgrade to Windows 8.1, my apps cannot find any installed printers. The Xerox shows up in the device list, but I cannot use it, even to print a test page. I have downloaded the new driver, and tried to re-install, but when I try to open the Add Printer function, I get the following error message: "Windows can't open Add Printer. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper." I contacted Microsoft via phone, and the rep told me i needed to go back to Windows 8. HP tells me that if I do that, I will lose all my data and installed programs, including Microsoft Office. I do not want to go through all that again, the computer is only a few months old. Please help!

Open services.msc
Scroll down to Print Spooler and double click on it
Click on Dependencies tab
Check what dependencies the print spooler has, if any
you may need to click "+" on those dependencies to see more dependencies
Go back to the Services list
On each of the spooler dependencies, double click on it
Make sure it is set to Automatic in the Startup Type drop down menu
Now click on Start to start the service
Click OK

Using Windows 8.1 and have a green checkmark next to printer as default
Edit: The difference may be I'm not on a network. Home alone.
Finally got it working. Went through the dependencies; they were all fine. When I first checked the print spooler this morning, it was not running. I started it, and then was able to print a test page from the printer, but not able to print from any apps. I did a full shut-down on the pc, and now I'm able to print from apps as well.
I'm not sure what the crucial fix was; just happy it's done. Thanks to everyone who posted for all the help!

We have a customer who upgraded to W8.1 from W8.0 last night and could no longer print. One printer was local and most of the balance were connected via a print server. The spooler would stop after a very short period of time. The default printer was local. We were seeing the same "endpoints" error as MistiRu.
In our instance, we stopped the Windows Firewall Service (services.msc). Restarting the spooler caused all of the printers attached via the print server to disappear from Printers and Devices. The local printer stayed as did a printer that is on the network but added via a local TCP port. We were able to keep the spooler started. We then re-enabled the firewall and the spooler has remained active through several restarts. We have since re-added the printers on the print server.
The only minor issue has been that in Printers and Devices, the default (local) printer doesn't show as being the default printer. Maybe this is a change to 8.1, but I'm used to seeing a check mark on the default printer.

I have discovered something while trying to check the Print Spooler. It is set to Automatic, but stopped. When I start it, the spooler will run for appx 2 mins, but then go back to stopped. If I try to open a print queue while the spooler is running, my printer is found, briefly. On my last attempt, I opened the print function in Microsoft Word. Just about the time Word recognized the printer, the spooler stopped working.
I have not started the above process yet, but wanted to pass on this information in the event it would help narrow down the problem.
