I am experiencing a similar problem. I have an HP desktop and a Xerox Phaser 6300. After the upgrade to Windows 8.1, my apps cannot find any installed printers. The Xerox shows up in the device list, but I cannot use it, even to print a test page. I have downloaded the new driver, and tried to re-install, but when I try to open the Add Printer function, I get the following error message: "Windows can't open Add Printer. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper." I contacted Microsoft via phone, and the rep told me i needed to go back to Windows 8. HP tells me that if I do that, I will lose all my data and installed programs, including Microsoft Office. I do not want to go through all that again, the computer is only a few months old. Please help!

Open services.msc
Scroll down to Print Spooler and double click on it
Click on Dependencies tab
Check what dependencies the print spooler has, if any
you may need to click "+" on those dependencies to see more dependencies
Go back to the Services list
On each of the spooler dependencies, double click on it
Make sure it is set to Automatic in the Startup Type drop down menu
Now click on Start to start the service
Click OK

Yes I have windows 8.1 and a copy of it at home. However, I have just a windows 8 product key.
When I tried to install windows 8.1 directly, my windows 8 product key did not work. Do I need one for the repair?

What OS are you running, and if you're running 8.1, do you have the actual install media for 8.1 (many users don't if they took the upgrade while on Windows 8). If you don't have the media, let me know and I can give you a link to my GDrive that has it uploaded.

In regards to the registry, the 64bit portion of the registry will be contained within the folder Wow6432Node (i.e. HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node, HKCU\Software\Wow6432Node, etc.).
You've reached the extent of my knowledge, and if you're unable to find any fix via forums or google, I would suggest one of two options: either system restore back to a point where this was working, or do a repair install.
A repair install is where you use the Windows installation media to repair your system files. To do this, run Windows Setup from within Windows, select the option to "upgrade" and select the option to retain all of your files and settings. What this does is replace all system files within the %WinDir%. If you have Windows 8.1, you'll need to use the Windows 8.1 installation media (not Windows 8). Once completed, you'll probably need to re-activate Windows via PC Settings (the activation doesn't count against you)
EDIT:
Due to the nature of your issue, I'm leaning to the side of there's something else going on within your system, as the only cause, literally the only cause, of receiving an endpoint mapper error (with regards to printers) is the Windows Firewall service is not running and set to automatic. Because of this fact, I personally would do a repair install. If you have Windows 8.1, make sure you turn on every sync option for your system withinPC Settings - OneDrive - Sync Settings, as this will ensure all redundant customizations to your system are automatically copied and applied upon the OOBE that launches after the repair install is completed.
