Device driver was not successfully installed (no driver found) on Windows 7 x64

I have had this problem for quite some time now, but tried to fix it on and off.

I knew I had problems with USB devices. Not even a standard keyboard will install.

Here is what I have found out:

I have a standard keyboard which I have used on this computer before.

Now it ONLY works if I plug it into the port I installed it on originally.

ALL other USB ports fail.

I then started trying moving other devices around.

They all ONLY work in the ports they were installed on originally.

ALL report a "no driver found" message when trying to use another port.

I then decided to check with a webcam that I never installed on this computer.

It fails on ALL ports.

So it's not only one port or one device.

I now want to move a 3TB harddisk from another computer of mine.

I have a USB3.0 dock that I KNOW supports 3TB drives as it already run one, but on another pc.

On this one I get the same error as in the title, no matter what port I try.

I then decided to pull the drive from the USB dock and mount it internally.

It STILL gives the above error as shown here:

It's almost as if Windows have lost ALL drivers for ALL devices??!?

I have tried the following:

commandline as admin > SFC /SCANNOW

That reports that eveything is fine.

I ran CHKDSK on all drives

No errors.

I tried running the following antispyware:

superantispyware

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

AdwCleaner

CCleaner

All gives a clean bill of health.

I read other people went into the device manager and deleted all the USB devices, so I tried that.

That made my mouse and keyboard die. Forced shutdown. Boot.

Then Windows showed me I needed USB drivers, but I could not get them as mouse and keyboard didn't work.

I had to boot on my Recovery Disc, and do a system restore.

I don't know if it's any help but I have this from an attempt to run a repair:

I am really getting deperate.

Oh, as a sidenote. Reinstalling/resetting Windows is NOT an option!

    Just wanna point out I still haven't solved this issue.

    All I know is that no matter what I plug in, IF it haven't been in that particular plug before, then Windows fails to locate drivers for it.

    When installing manually and pointing to "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERSTORE\FILEREPOSITORY" then it NEVER fails.

    I found 2 interesting log files. They are both in "%systemdrive%\Windows\inf"

    "setupapi.app.log"

    "setupapi.dev.log"

    After finding those I decided to try the following:

    1. Plug in my camera, and uninstalled it from the device manager, so it was totally gone (it was shown as unknown).
    2. Deleted the log files.
    3. Selected "Scan for hardware changes".
    4. Saved the 2 log files to this zip file: http://snowmans.dk/tmp/auto.zip
    5. Deleted the 2 logs,
    6. Did a MANUAL install pointing to "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERSTORE\FILEREPOSITORY".
    7. Saved the 2 log files to this zip file: http://snowmans.dk/tmp/manual.zip

    I hope they can be used to help me further in this matter.

    I am beginning to wonder if there is some issue that causes it to not get the .sys files needed from the "%Systemdrive%\Windows\System32\drivers" folder... The files are present there, as are the .inf and .PNF files in the "%Systemdrive%\Windows\inf" folder.

    Are there some registry settings that should make sure it gets the .sys files form the correct folder?

    I just tested my old Olympus u760 camera, which I know works as it connects fine on another Win7 pc.

    Windows fails again until I manually point to "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERSTORE\FILEREPOSITORY".

    Even if I manually point to the inf folder it still fails.

    I verified all the security settings and TrustedInstaller, Administrator and SYSTEM have full rights, and Users have the correct read/traverse etc...

    Still it acts as it can't be bothered to read in the inf folder... I am puzzled...

    Just an update.

    I have wiped my event logs, and then I started testing different devices.

    I tested 2 different USB drives (both failed before), and the Ultra HS-SD/MMC USB device (that always failed).

    Windows fails finding drivers for all of them.

    But if I go and manually point to "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERSTORE\FILEREPOSITORY" then it finds drivers for all devices.

    The log still shows the HS-SD device with error code 0xe0000203, but it seems to be installed correctly.

    Then I tested my webcam that also failed earlier.

    It's as if after I got the other devices installed now it finds the webcam too.

    I'll test more devices later when I have more time, and report back.
