Samsung ATIV Smart PC 500T 8.1 Update

Currently, after the 8.1 update, Internet Explorer doesn't work, office is slow, the desktop is slow, and I have a whole host of other problems. Samsung says I need to pay $40 to reimage, but the only reason I updated was because it said this device is compatible at this web address: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en\_US/pdp/Samsung-ATIV-Smart-PC-500T-Tablet-White/productID.265664500.

Both Microsoft and Samsung refuse to refund the $40 charge that is necessary to make my computer work again, and I cannot access the recovery partition on my Samsung device. It is there, just not accessible. Anyone who has information on how to solve this issue, if you could give me an answer it would be greatly appreciated.

I started my own thread trying to get this resolved and sent an email to realtek.

I have researched the way drivers are handled a little bit and since this driver will work until its time to reboot, I have been disabling the device in device manager before shutting the tablet down, then after booting up I enable it again, this has allowed to to function but is a pain. But that being said drivers are handle in a couple of different ways, some are loaded as the system is initializing and some are as plug and play  (or loaded on demand) after the system is booted up. It seems to me that this driver can function as plug and play since that is what I am doing manually through device manager, if someone could write the configuration file for the driver to operate like that it might solve the issue.

Anyone know how to do that?

So to be clear: It is a driver configuration error, the driver for the realtek hardware is causing the system to hang during boot.

If your system is hanging, you must restart in safe mode, then go to device manager and disable to the realtek sound device. Then reboot in normal mode and again enable the sound device, thendo not shut down the tablet unless you disable the sound device first.

I keep the tablet in sleep mode when I am not using it, it will wake up fine, but if you shut it down without disabling you will have to do the safe mode thing again. Until they fix the driver this is the only way to have the tablet function with sound.

    I've been using Windows 8.1 for quite a while until I refreshed the machine last week.  Now when I perform the Windows 8.1 update - and it works - I can't do any updates, or driver updates or basically anything without "bricking" the laptop.  The next reboot will fail every time.  It just sits there with the camera clicking and the Samsung logo spinning.  After a couple forced restarts it will bring up the troubleshooting options and I'm able to load Windows in Safe Mode.  I have found no solution to get this laptop running properly.  I've tried everything.  The first time this happened was after running Windows Update in 8.1, so the next time I tried updating the drivers first....same result.

    Microsoft and Samsung please find a solution.  I am still paying my cell carrier a monthly fee for this laptop that I can't use.

    Hi,

    You can't apply any fixes if the machine is completely dead.  It gives you a choice of

    1. reload the machine from factory settings
    2. reboot the machine - which gets you to the same place where you are presented with the same two options.

    Therefore, you are given only one option - reload the machine from factory settings which cleans off your hard drive.

    You then wait for the process to continue (Updates) for another 8 hours until you are given the same 2 options above.  If it kicks back to Windows 8, you are VERY lucky.

    I bave the same problem and same error after installing audio_driver

    In previous month i use win 8,1 without problem!!!

    Samsung tell me reinstalling win 8,1 but i made tris for 5 Times!!!!

    I started having this problem yesterday! 

    Previously I had updated to Windows 8.1 without any issues.  **I have been using Windows 8.1 for several months.**I have made no changes to either the PC or its configuration in months.   Currently, there are no bios updates available from Samsung.  All the installed drivers from Samsung were also up to date. 

    The last automatic Windows update is what appears to have caused the issue.  I don't know exactly when it came out, but my tablet installed it yesterday morning. 

    Symptoms:  Following the update install, on reboot it would hang.  The camera light clicks on a couple of times (which is normal), and then the light goes into a steady blink and I hear the camera click constantly.  (Note:  this is not the same clicking as when you take a picture.  This faint clicking is usually what I hear when switching from the rear camera to the front facing camera).  After I force powered the unit down and restarted, it attempted to recover and diagnose, but eventually brought me to the recovery options screen.  I attempted recovery of a prior restore point (there was only one) and it failed. 

    So I refreshed the PC to factory settings and reinstalled all the Windows 8 updates.  Everything worked well.  I then updated to Windows 8.1 again.  And the problem appeared again.  This time, it restored me to Windows 8 stating that the PC could not be updated to Windows 8.1 and the following error code:

          0xC1900101 - 0x40017

    Perhaps one of the current Windows 8.1 drivers is the problem? 

    Update as of 4/8/2015:

    The failed 8.1 update install reverted me to Windows 8.  I am going to stay with it for now. 

    Additional thoughts

    This is the second time a Windows update has caused the 500T to crash and burn.  The prior instance was while I was still on Windows 8 last year.  After many hours with Samsung support, they could not diagnose the problem.  So I had to send the unit back to Samsung under warranty.  I week later they returned it - it turned out to be a necessary BIOS update, which I could have in fact done myself! 

    This just confirms my belief that:

    (a) Windows 8/8.1 continues to be unreliable in terms of hardware compatibility and support for anything but large volume mainstream Wintel hardware vendors.  Hope 10 is better.

    (b) Samsung should probably get out of the Wintel market - they just don't have the nimbleness and bandwidth to keep up with the Windows Updates.

    (c) Samsung technical support is a joke.
