Windows 8 and 8.1 Randomly Freezing My Entire Laptop

Hello All,

I recently bought a brand new laptop from Amazon, a very sexy Acer Aspire that I absolutely love! The only problem with this gorgeous piece of work is that I can't use it that much!

It came with Windows 8 and worked fine for the first week, but then it started to randomly freeze. At the time, I thought it was WoW causing the freezing on the machine since that is all I was using it for at first. Several weeks later, when I started to play WoW less and do more on the computer, the freezing would still occur at the most random of times, no matter what I was or was not doing!

Let me be clear. When I say that this computer freezes, I mean that the cursor is frozen, it registers NO input of any kind, even if I faceroll the keyboard and run all of my fingers across its beautiful touch screen. What's equally annoying is that there is NO warning that it's about to happen. When the freeze occurs, I cannot do ANYTHING on the computer.

Once it freezes, the ONLY thing that I can do to fix it is to perform a hard restart, which I HATE to do.

I thought that the problem might be fixed once I upgraded it to 8.1, so I was very excited to install it, but that has not been the case. The problem has been consistent in its occurrence and annoyance.

I cannot, for the life of me, imagine what the issue might be, but if anyone may be able to provide a permanent solution to this problem, I would be eternally grateful to them.

    I just tried all 3 of your suggestions, and the laptop froze on me twice within the last 5 minutes as I tried to log on here and reply to your post.

    Thanks for the help.

    I couldn't take the constant freeze ups so I just got a purchased a new HP computer. Too much headache for a brand new computer!

    Hi,

    Apologize for the delayed response.

    As per the event viewer logs, it seems Facebook app, ATI graphics card (atieclxx.exe) and Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework is crashing and fails to load the sensor driver (The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\SensorsAndLocationEnum\LPSensorSWDevice.)

    Are you using or have installed Facebook app?

    What is the Make and Model of the graphics card? Is it AMD ATI?

    I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the Facebook app. Right Click on the app and select Uninstall. Go to Store and open Your apps section. Reinstall Facebook app. Refer to the linkto know how to reinstall an app.

    For ATI issues, I would suggest you to refer to the linkto download and install the latest AMD driver for Windows 8.1.

    For issues related to Windows Driver Foundation, let me tell you what Windows Driver Foundation is and how it works. This service (also called User-mode Driver Framework (UMDF)) is responsible to move drivers for devices to user mode and simplify the drivers and improve the overall stability of the operating system. This service is installed by default, and the startup type is Manual.

    First of all, I would suggest you to check if the service is started. If yes, change the startup type to automatic and see if you still receive the same error message. Follow the steps:

    Press Windows+R keys and type services.msc. Hit Enter.

    Locate Windows Driver Foundation service. Double Click on it and select Startup type to Automatic and set service status to Start.

    Click on Apply and then OK.

    Restart the computer.

    Please let us know if the issue still persists.

    Yeah, this is SO weird and annoying! I was laid off Friday, so when I was trying to apply for a job Saturday night, the dang computer froze on me 5 times in 15 minutes. That didn't make me too happy....

    I HAVE noticed that the freezing seems to happen the most when I am on the internet, though. I can't recall it freezing when I've had my connection turned off, so I'm going to try leaving my computer on throughout the day with my wifi disabled to see if it still freezes, which I think it will.
