I successfully resolved the problem and now have installed the Windows 8.1 update. It turns out that my Windows Updater didn't install any optional updates. I found two of those, installed them, and that eliminated the Win 8.1 update problem!
Windows 8.1 Update Error Code: 0x80240031
I am getting error code 0x80240031 during download of Windows 8.1 for 50% of Downloading. Can anybody help me fix this?

Has anybody tried looking at their logs to see which "file is in the wrong format"?

2014-04-22T01:43:48+00:00 Ahaha... A very nice way to put down the rage... I think MS is still developing the product while it has sold and that's the reason why several people are not able to update it.. It is night time cause windows 8.1 update will be available for windows phone soon...

2014-04-21T20:10:39+00:00 pity we don't see sentiments like these widely published on all of the National news outlets world-wide... Maybe M$ could then muster some incentive to DO THE RIGHT THING!!!

2014-04-21T19:36:24+00:00 Thanks for the advice.
The "Windows Update troubleshooter" does detect two problems and claims it is able to resolve them (this seems to be similar to running the sfc /scannow script). However, I still get the same error code (0x80240031), and the Windows 8.1 updater does not skip those "annoying 50%".
Any other suggestions?
Best regards,
Michael
