I've found that connecting my PC directly to the router with a LAN cable solves the download issue.  I can now complete the download and get to the installing phase every time.

Unfortunately, it now fails to finish installing after the reboot and has given me a few blue screens.  I can't say I'm surprised, I fully expected that to be the case.

Still, if anyone has yet to try a wired connection, it solved at least this particular issue for me.  I don't know why, my WiFi connection tested well with no lost packets or other issues, and I've had no trouble downloading other large files or drivers.

This does not help anyone. Can you please explain what exactly the amazing tech support agent did to get through this, like how exactly did they help? And furthermore you should have referred them to this thread. Because its fantastic that they helped you but they clearly need to help a **** load of more people before I give them any praise.

What I did to resolve this issue was to resolve the compatibility issues that were appearing on the Upgrade Assistant program. Once that was resolved Win8.1 Installed w/o issue.

I was having the same problem. I tried multiple times and no luck. I went to windows update and installed all of the updates that were listed, then went back to the App Store and tried the update and finally it worked.

I have done the same thing but no success. I don't know what else to do.
