Windows 9 release Date?

I hate the flat look of Windows 8.1 and the fact that it opens everything in full screen

(on a 27" display with Hires, that's horrible). For many years I like working with several windows open next to each other at the same time (hence the 27" display). 

You are obviously using the 'modern' interface.  Just switch to booting into desktop mode and everything you did with Windows 7 you can do with Windows 8.1!  Think of the modern interface as a glorified start menu for use if you need it.

I bought an additional copy of Window 7 in order to install it on my latest PC

(almost 1 year old meanwhile) that came pre-installed with Windows 8.1.

I found all the drivers except one. But I am very nervous about installing it.  

2 questions to you:

-if the PC you installed Windows 7 on, was a PC that came with Windows 8.1 pre-installed,

was it easy to install Windows 7? is there something very important that I should know? 

on internet some people seem to have had serious issues while trying to do that

-in order not to lose my warranty (3 years)(it was an expensive PC for my budget), 

the best would be to keep Windows 8.1, and to install Windows 7 somewhere "next to it" (dual boot)

We all have different reasons to love or hate Windows 8/8.1 (in my case hate, really hate). 

I always liked working with Windows.

I found the Mac very stylish but one same style for everybody , 

while I could create myown personal style on Windows.

One of the first things I like doing when buying a new PC, is to customize it,

to make it mine and from there it's really fun to explore and to use it.

Creating my own working space (and not just having to swallow what's there). I like to use a small font in Explorer and in my customized taskbar (with QuickLaunch, my own toolbars for Explorer shortcuts and dekstop icons (iconfree desktop), Address field, time, sound, language, network connection…).

Windows 8.1 is so annoying that I never manage to stay long enough on it to discover the good things it might have.

Mac would only become an option for me if it became highly customizable.

Loved XP, disliked Vista, loved Windows 7 (but installed Explorer++ on it, to get more horizontal lines visible*, appreciating also its tabs and bookmarks; also installed some tweak I found on internet to add default custom locations when using Save As)

*Windows 7 Explorer had more white space between the lines and even with a large screen less lines were visible.

Sometimes I wish that Microsoft would split into different companies and that each of them will develop independently from each other, a version of Windows. And one of them will hopefully be the version I'm crazy about.

I had a system crash a little over a year ago.  I bought a new MB, 16 Gigs of ram, and a new processor (I left my 5 TB raid drive alone).  I made the mistake of also "upgrading" to Windows 8.  I hated it so much that a week later I ordered my first Mac (a Macbook Air).  The Windows 8 interface is horrible.  In trying to have a unified opsys for tablets & PCs they ruined it for the desktop.  Yesterday I hooked my old computer up and powered it up for the first time in 11 months.  It did an update, and now it won't boot (a common problem for me was always troubleshooting windows).  I am either going to buy a mac pro (which will be hard because I have built every computer...except the laptops...I have had for the last 20 years), or work on a hackintosh.  I have used just about every version of windows starting with 3.1 (I loved NT), used OS/2 (which I really liked, but IBM eventually dropped it), Red Hat, and now OS X.  OS X is a far superior operating system to windows, and if someone wants Windows it will also run on a Mac.  If Microsoft goes back to the old GUI I will also have a windows machine, but as of right now I am moving further and further away from it.
