The number pad on my brand new Windows 8 laptop is not working?!

I just bought a new Toshiba Satellite laptop with windows 8 and the side number pad doesn't work, with or without the Num lock key on. Does anyone know why?

Click on Start --> Control Panel --> Ease of Access --> Ease of Access Center --> 

Click on "Change how your keyboard works" --> Under Control the mouse with the 

keyboard, uncheck the check box "Turn ON Mouse Keys" --> Click on OK.

I tired the advice to no avail.

This worked:    Control Panel Home Screen; Ease of Access; Change how Keyboard Works;

Unclick: turn on Toggle Keys by holding down NumLock for 5 secs.

    None of that is working for me. When I first got my laptop, the number pad didnt type out the numbers I was trying to type. The arrow keys work on it, the num lock light is on, i can use all of the math functions of it too, the number themselves wont show up though. How do I fix that?

    Thank you so much! I have spent hours trying to figure out how I disabled my keypad! I remembered checking a box when playing around with other settings, but couldn't remember where, lol.

    The box was already unchecked, but I turned it on (I used left Shift + Left Alt + Num lock as DarleneDonald suggested) and it worked! This also fixed CAPSLOCK having an opposite effect on my lock screen, number keys only typing symbols, and my browser opening a new window each time I clicked on a link.
